Hmm, so they hunted Lions. People always did these things, didn't they?  In ancient Assyria, hunting Lions was a sport solely for the top of the elite. The Kings killed Lions, sometimes with their bare hands (or at least I like to imagine that). Despite how it looks though, it was arguably not that brave a thing to do. The Lions were already captured, then released into an arena, before being murdered by the King, while spectators look in awe and cheer. Somewhat similar to how our own Indian princes cordoned the poor Bengal tigers and Gir Lions off, ultimately to be shot by a British Sahib.
