this is a more basic one buy lionash has too much potential to not be a favorite. I really like either "ashfur groomed lionpaw but now lionblaze is bigger and stronger and has all the power" and "ashfur sees bramblesquirrel's son and can't help but be attracted to him"
Ashfur x Lionpaw/blaze is one of my favorite unhealthy ships. Ashfur deciding to use his position to groom Lionpaw into hating/resenting Squirrelflight and being his loyal second, but he bites off more than he can chew and ends up with a possessive and emotionally unstable beast of a cat as his "mate."
LionAsh but Lionblaze is the one who killed Ashfur and revealed the secret of his heritage to all the clans in place of Hollyleaf before running away and getting trapped in the tunnels. It's not really the truth about his birth that sends him on this downward spiral, but the fact Ashfur never really loved him and used him. Imagine you're trapped in a fire with your family and your supposed mate appears, not to save you but to declare his undying love for your mom. How do you think the talk they have before Lionblaze kills Ashfur would go?
This is a fantastic vision for LionAsh. I love this image of Lionblaze seeing Ashfur coming toward them through the flames like "thank goodness you're here, we-" and Ashfur cuts him off to go on his rant about Squirrelflight.
I feel like their talk by the river starts with Lionblaze trying to understand like, "I though you loved me?". Ashfur is trying to be especially hurtful at this point, so you get something like "Don't be a mousebrain. I was only ever with you to get back at Squirrelflight. What cat in their right mind would want to be mates with you."
And Lionblaze just snaps.

Oh! First of all, I'm absolutely honored--I know I don't do a good job of interacting much over here (I want to fix it I really do) but I also know you see my tags on everything, so...
Anyway the age gap is one of the most fun things to play with, because Lion's generation is one of the most fleshed out in terms of "this feels like we have multiple age groups in the same den" when looking at apprentices, and the interactions between the three litters is really neat.
A lot of the real fun comes from, in my opinion, playing with the culture of the clan and the expectations of those around Ash and Lion, as well as their actual positions. Holly and Lion don't get it, but are generally supportive. Ash can't talk to anyone cause, you know, this is his apprentice, and the son of his ex!
Big fun comes from the pressures they deal with and the necessitated slow burn of it. The real relationship doesn't start till Lion's a warrior, but the yearning to prove himself worthy of Ash, the want to be close to him, the general not wanting to let him down and live up to expectations! On Ash's side, him trying to dissuade these things, just trying to be Professional. Keep the relationship what it's meant to be, but also unable to not be aware of Lion's eyes on him, and... what if Lion does grow out of it? What if it is just an apprentice crush?
And then the eventual courtship. Lion is excitable and Ash and self-conscious and Bramble and Squirrel... I think there's a lot of fun to be had with the courtship rituals and interactions
