It was novel at least, moving around this area of the city without having to transform. But the novelty had fast worn thin, something needed to be done lest this place tear itself apart. Side with their captors who had been erstwhile entirely silent until they needed their victims help, or side with aggressive invaders who offered her true self restored with the promise of freedom that may simply be destruction in disguise.
Better the devil you know, right? Except she didn’t know the stars, no did. If anything time had never been a concern, so things staying the same was still better than the threat of the unknown even if the same was far from ideal. Many were caught in the crossfire and helping them was certainly good for her image, but it didn’t solve anything. Yet when opportunity presented itself, she acted.
The kraken was half out of the risen water, claws and tentacles holding up a shredded entrance to a collapsing building as those seeking shelter filtered out to look for someone safer to wait out the results of this attack. While many of them spared her more than a second glance that was usually fearful, it seemed they were either thankful enough or more concerned with finding new shelter. All except one of them, who who stared up at her and seemed unwavering despite his small size.
She pulled her limbs free and the half collapsed building became entirely wreckage. “And what about you?”
“I’m afraid I can’t take you to a new shelter, if that’s what you’re waiting for. Or, perhaps you’re looking to effect some change.”
