how the LotR elves would wake you

Haldir, Thranduil, Legolas and Lindir

Haldir:

He leaves very early for his morning patrol, but he always wakes you up when he returns.

He’s gentle with you but also firm. He'd stroke your hair back, press a kiss or two to your temple, and whisper in that low, commanding voice:

"It is time, meleth. The sun is already jealous it does not see you."

If you’re stubborn, still trying to steal a few more minutes of sleep. He’ll scoop you into his arms bridal style. The tips of his ears would flush the faintest shade of pink when you bury your face into his chest.

Thranduil:

He'd be so regal and smug. He'd chuckle at your small sleeping form. His big hands would gently shake you, trying to wake you. He'd press a kiss to the crown of your head. If you still refuse to wake up, he'll walk over to the large windows in the bedchambers and pull them wide open. Letting the sun spill into the room. He'd stand dramatically and say,

"Rise, my queen. The world is waiting for you."

If you ignored him, he'd tug the blankets off of you. He'd go on muttering about how "hopelessly indulgent" mortals are. He'd sit on the bed and let you crawl into his lap regardless.

Legolas:

Oh, the sunshine prince. He'd be lying next to you, with your face snuggled into his bare chest. His fingers would be curled into your hair, stroking it with his long fingers.

"Meleth, I fear if you do not wake, the trees will grow restless. They miss you."

He'd pepper kisses along your jaw until you sleepily giggled. He'd grin against your skin. Whispering sweet words, maybe bribing you with honey cakes if you wake up.

Lindir:

He'd absolutely sing you awake. A soft, lilting melody by your bedside, fingers brushing over your cheek until you blink awake.

"Ah, there she is. The fairest star has returned."

Lindir (Maglor in disguise): wow

Elrond: no actually we'll throw it into a volcano

Rivendell is one big collection of weird, strange, and highly dangerous creatures and beings.

Lord Elrond: Eldritch horror, Maiarin magic through being a descendant of Melian and Lúthien. Raised by fëanorian‘s, absolutely feral if needed. Has connections to a few very dangerous people.

Lord Glorfindel: Ancient, valinor born Balrog slayer. Rose from the dead. Saw things.

Erestor: Silent waters are deep. Probably has some fëanorian blood. Also has connection‘s. Ex spymaster of Himring.

Random terrifying being that wanders the woods and sing‘s laments of time‘s long gone: Either a wrath or Maglor, no one really knows

Elrond Peredhel, resident healer and eldritch crime against nature, self-explanatory

Glorfindel, slayer of balrogs, self-explanatory

Erestor, probably Feanorian, definitely dangerous

Old Feanorian diehards, all of whom are probably looking for an excuse to commit morally justified violence

Old Gondolindrim/Iathrim, who, despite what they might tell you, are exactly as dangerous as the Feanorians

Garthaglir the Library Orc, who absolutely remembers how to use the giant battleaxe he keeps behind his desk

A strange, shadowy figure roaming the valley who I'm *sure* isn't Maglor Feanorian, but who is nonetheless a terrifying singer

Elladan and Elrohir, who have spent the last several centuries becoming nightmare fuel for Sauron's forces

Arwen, eldritch, bites

Bilbo Baggins, not to be underestimated, can defeat a grown man with nothing more than his scathingly polite commentary

Dunedain visitors, vaguely feral, highly trained

Aragorn, very feral, highly trained

Lindir, not actually dangerous, but if you upset him you are going to have problems with everyone else on this list

(we're going to assume it's probably everybody's first time doing this)

Frodo: 3/10 - very cooperative but kinda nervous. If the Ring is on its chain, things are better because he doesn't have to put it in the bin, but he's still worried something might go wrong and it get taken away.

Sam: 3/10 - also very cooperative, pretty organized, unless he's never done this before, in which case he might be kinda nervous about keeping his belongings in sight.

Merry: 1/10 - very compliant, very organized. No complaints.

Pippin: 8/10 - disorganized, chaotic, definitely causes a bit of a scene. Starts taking off his shirt because somebody told him ahead of time "you have to take everything off" and he took it too literally. Probably sets off the body scanner because...that's just the luck he has.

Bilbo: 6/10 - doesn't want to take everything out of his pockets...for reasons. Other than that, he may be a little suspicious but he's mostly fine...if only because Gandalf magically does something to get him through without having to empty his pockets.

Boromir: 4/10 - doesn't want to be parted from his important belongings, slightly chaotic because he can't focus due to trying to keep his eye on his carry-on bag.

Gimli: 7/10 - Averse to the idea of being scanned, becomes defiant and causes an argument. Get your prying hands off his belongings the second they are through the bag scanner!

Legolas: 1/10 - very easy-going & compliant. Also has fair-of-face-beyond-the-measure-of-men privilege, so any issues are simply overlooked.

Aragorn: 9/10 - you remember this guy in Rohan when he had to give the guards his sword, right? Unexpectedly kind of a Karen about having to separate from his special heirloom sword. Unfortunately the security attendants do not care about its heritage or that Aragorn insists he won't hurt anyone. Definitely causes a scene. However, if no sword is involved, he's actually very chill.

Gandalf: either 1/10 or 11/10. Either he does something so all the little things (fireworks) in all his secret little pockets are magically overlooked, OR he causes a big scene like he did in Rohan when they told him to surrender his staff. Definitely causes chaos and frustrates everyone around him for holding up the line.

Elrond: 0/10 - super organized, knows all the protocol ahead of time, exceptionally nice and polite.

Galadriel: 1/10 - she might as well be the scanner, since she already knows what's in your mind. Probably knows what's in your luggage too. A little intimidating, but not problematic.

Faramir: 0/10 - very prepared, very cooperative, even helps other people. No complaints.

Thranduil: 5/10 - has pretty privilege but difficult vibes. A little bit perfectionist, gives the impression he's the one in charge even though he's not, which intimidates the security staff.

Denethor: 7/10 - doesn't even pretend to be polite, very suspicious of security protocol, likely to tell the staff they're doing something wrong.

Éomer: 5/10 - a little suspicious of security protocol, though not as much as Denethor. The security staff keeps an eye on him because he probably said something that comes across more threatening than he meant it.

Éowyn: 4/10 - not a problem herself, but if one of her friends has to get the pat-down, she will probably argue that "they shouldn't have to do that."

Lindir: 5/10 - so, so nervous even though he has like the least cause to be. Holds up the line triple checking there are no prohibited items on his person, then asking one of his friends to check and make sure there are no prohibited items on his person, in case he missed something.

Lindir, Glorfindel and Erestor

First try drawing Lindir, I hope to do it more often, really.

Old version underneath. The one on top is slightly edited from the one before because I don't like the background nor the lighting of the old one at all.

But I love the idea that he’s just some random kid who got promoted by Elrond because he has the people skills and can handle things like rowdy dwarves without causing a political fallout. Before this he was just happily doing his thing being a minstrel in the Hall of Fire, which is where Celebrian first noticed this talent.

He was offered the job. He accepted with honour.

But he didn’t realise the sheer amount of shenanigans such a job would entail. And now he’s permanently part of the House of Elrond and all the drama and fun that comes with it.

Featuring: An Age Old Kinslayer reluctantly dragged kicking and screaming by a far too happy Glorfindel to his new home. A grumpy advisor. A very flamboyant Captain who for some reason loves to irritate everyone the Advisor and sad old Kinslayer. A workaholic Lord far too good at playing off his exhaustion. A deceptively mischievous Lady who ropes him into her schemes. And a constant stream of Dunedain chieflings playing in the halls, bringing chaos where they go, almost knocking over priceless artefacts.

And let’s not forget Elrond’s children. He’s only a century older than Elladan and Elrohir and has a minor crisis when they call him ‘Uncle’ for the first time. (They grow out of it very quickly, but still call him that on occasion just to mess with him.)

Arwen’s no better.

Aragorn… well he can’t fault the boy for it. By this point it’s endearing rather than crisis inducing… though that might just be because he’s human.
