Ambereyes was more apparent in her relief at not having to take Tabby for her first hunting lesson alone. Secretly, she was also happy to hunt beside Peach. She had taken the few times she’d caught rabbits with Timberleg for granted, always assuming she would have another chance to spend time with her son. She would not make the same mistake with her youngest kitten, and she would be sure to share her meal with Lilyfire when her older daughter returned. In truth, she was grateful for Spottedshadow giving her something to do so she would not be bound to the base and her grief all day.

There’s a lot I love about this quote, despite how jumbled it all is (reflecting their panicky and emotional state at the time, and I also took out some in-between physicality stuff because I just wanted their words since it’s a quote dhchdhdh), because it talks a lot about subjects that really hit home to me.
