Huh 🌌 (A Random Observational Rant About Lightyear 😭)
So I’m watching Lightyear (2022) for a bit and I couldn’t help but notice something wild regarding Buzz’s writing as a character…
First of all wouldn’t you be concerned for your dead best friend’s grand daughter? Like I know for certain him and Hawthorne were best friends and even in the art book it states that Izzy would be his best friend in the story, but it doesn’t feel like that ESPECIALLY when he didn’t mention the stealth mode’s timer function which is not even a trivial thing to forget.
Mister I know all the rules knows how to function his ranger suit and talking to rookies in the game you think he would disclose that right away. Me giving the benefit of the doubt and saying that it’s because he’s used to already knowing protocols and what to do as a seasoned Space Ranger but I digress.
My man should know better…also side tangent but the Zurg scenes? Very positive they are cool I admit and very intimidating. On the other hand this is so depressing
To those who enjoy Lightyear good for you! (Not trying to sound sarcastic) I genuinely feel so wronged by this movie but I do see some positives it’s just weighted heavily by this grim world.
The visuals however are absolutely beautiful but sadly that’s all I can say aside from one joke about pulling the finger that made me howl with laughter only for it to be soured with Buzz mentioning that he used to do the Infinity and Beyond hand gesture with Izzy’s grandmother..the realization made me so sad knowing she’s not there.
The funny thing is as a Buzz yume he’s so pretty and handsome and just gorgeous but man this writing hurts to see. 🫠
There’s a good chance that Pixar accidentally ripped off the “robot villian is actually the hero from a bad future” twist from Edens zero, even down to the villian having a different name cause robots misunderstood how their old name is pronounced
(While the lightyear movie came out two months before EZ revealed it, Edens zero had been foreshadowing and setting up its reveal since the very beginning)
People's reasons for disliking Pixar's Lightyear are totally valid and understandable. But I swear I've reached that point where every time I see yet another post talking about how the Buzz Lightyear series is better, all I can think is:
