Light pollution at its finest
As the day draws to a close, the nightlife for many is only just beginning. Whether it's music events or celebrating the festive season, the city illuminates like one giant christmas tree. However, while this all may sound exciting, the long term effects on the atmosphere and our wellbeing are not so. Even in a world which has never been more environmentally conscious, light pollution doesn't get the attention it should or deserves.
Caused by excessive artificial lighting, light pollution results in an atmospheric glow that envelopes the sky. It feels like the sun never even went down in the first place. Not only is this global threat a hindrance to the health of land, sea and ourselves, it also disturbs the natural beauty of stars and nocturnal wildlife. The good news is, whether you are a party animal or not, it's not too late to turn the tide; even the small things such as closing curtains and keeping an eye on outdoor electricity usage means we won't have to lose sleep over light pollution again.
