A Light aspect tartan design I came up with a while 8ack; I'd have to go recre8 it to get the weft/warp num8ers for each colour, 8ut- Fields of Light intercut with the veins of 8reath, with the red strings of Luck and F8 coursing through the entire thing.
the void aspect Pisses me off. like. void is about nothingness, yeah? meaninglessness. irrelevance. etc.
but void is also about symbols. that's undeniable. roxy, our rogue of void player, steals symbols. that's what she does. she describes making things as stealing their nonexistence, but not only is that...not what we see happening when she's literally performing classpect feats (if she's stealing the nonexistence, where does the nonexistence go? if she's stealing the nonexistence, why does she have to envision the object she's making first and not the nothingness she's stealing?), we also see her steal a symbol at the end of act 6. like, a pretty fucking important one. that being bro's sword.
it was a symbol of the sort of hypermasculine self-sacrificing heroism that bro championed and that dave rejected, but after roxy took it...she states later that it reminded her of everyone she'd lost, and although she didn't know what it meant to whoever first had it, she knew what it meant to her, and she stole it. (https://homestuck.com/009879). she outright calls it a symbol.
and...that makes a sort of sense. symbols aren't real, they're void, they don't exist. they're just representatives of things we find meaningful.
but. BUT. that should be setting off alarm bells. "things we find meaningful"??? isn't that the purview of Light???? if void is partially about symbols, it follows that light is partially about whatever the opposite of a symbol is. and the only thing i can think of is...something that doesn't have meaning. but that should be the purview of void, right?? something's not adding up here.
i don't know. the only other meaningful conversation regarding "symbols" in homestuck i can recall is rose's drunk alchemy rant. she mentions conjuring symbols from the void, she says that the "atomic idea" that hit newton jarred from the void a more profound understanding of nothingness, she says that people think up symbols from the "abyss" of consciousness without understanding what they mean, but they would cross through a ray of light regardless, because of the symbols...because the "symbols hol dall the power".
so, like, what the fuck, right? is symbology light-bound or void-bound? the only conclusion i can draw is that symbols are concepts of void (nothingness, ignorance) that nonetheless allow people to reach light (knowledge, thing-ness).
actually that makes a sort of sense post cancelled
Do you have any analysis for an Heir Of Light? (Aka my classpect)
i do not! but it is definitely an interesting one. light is one of the aspects that represents a lot of different concepts at once, to me, with the main association of luck, but i believe it also has quite a few associations with knowledge and outcomes. so, in that way, i think an heir of light could actually be somewhat similar of a character to who rose is! at least in the way that both classes (seer and heir respectively) tend to be characters easily consumed by their aspects, and who can resonate with them deeply. both require an understanding of the aspect to work within their roles, though of course it’s far more intrinsic for heir than seer. that all to say, i think an heir of light is somebody who is very knowledgeable on outcomes and luck, but more as a sense of instinct, rather than as overt knowledge. and, of course, as they embody the aspect, they are also able to manipulate the flow of luck and knowledge in their favor. heir as a whole is actually pretty simple like that, at least on the surface. heirs can tend to be a little bit lackadaisical, though, with john’s general attitude (though breath as a whole is very much like that as well), and equius’ generally... himself type of attitude, so i imagine they would be less intense, direct, and committed than a lot of light players tend to be. less concerned with getting things done, more committed to going with the flow and seeing how things spin out. overall a fairly simple combination, but very interesting all the same. thanks so much for asking in!
Thoughts on Prince of Light ?
Prince of Light eh? Alright let's talk about it Prince - The external half of the "Destroyer" class. Unlike it's counterpart the Bard, the Prince class works outside of their aspect. Basically, the way I look at the different class pairs is they either act as an extension of their aspect or they affect/interact with their aspect externally. With Princes, they fall into the latter category. They're usually a bit pessimistic, but definitely self assured and competent. Princes often take a leader role, or at least attempt to. Destructive classes also mirror their opposite aspect, as we can see with Dirk mirroring Mind and Eridan mirroring Doom. Basically they exhibit the traits of their counter-aspect Light - The aspect of Fortune, Knowledge, literal "Light" and narrative relevance. Light players are Knowledge seekers first and foremost, who constantly seek out whatever information they can. They specialize in taking existing information and "alchemizing" as it were new knowledge. Basically using what they have to extract new possibilities. Their aspect's relation to fortune doesn't necessarily mean that they're fortunate people, as we see with Rose whose time in Sburb is lightly haunted by Misfortune. Rather, their relation to fortune comes in their ability to seek it out and control it. They're adventurous people with a determination to leave their mark on the world SO we can ascertain that a Prince of Light would be someone who Destroys/Irrevocably Changes, Fortune, Knowledge, and Narrative Relevance (as well as literal light). Naturally, they would Mirror void players, as by changing and destroying Light, they make room for and propagate the growth of Void. I can see a Prince of Light being someone who's really hung up on things like Conspiracy Theories. They're constantly seeking out knowledge that's supposed to be hidden from them, but in their pursuit of it, they end up obscuring the truth for others and complicated the whole matter. Furthermore they'd likely view themselves as "Unlucky" but really they just keep setting themselves up for failure. Despite how toxic this person may seem, They'd probably be a very genuine, earnest person who wants to help others. Their quest would likely revolve around them learning to accept the basic facts of the world. That they're making things harder for themselves and they need to redirect that self-destructive energy towards changing things rather than tarnishing them When it comes to other players, they're going to be rather fickle. They could be an amazing asset: Working to take charge of Information and to "Break" the spotlight being shone on the wrong people, but they could just as easily sabotage their group and end up putting themselves and their friends in a worse position that when they started. It's honestly up to how willing to change the Prince is. Finally, to note, Despite how challenging the Prince themselves might be for other players, the presence of a Prince of Light indicates that the session has an Abundance of Knowledge, Fortune, and Narrative Relevance. That sounds good, initially, but this would also mean that our player's foes have a substantial amount of luck in obtaining what they need. If the prince isn't able to learn their role properly, it's likely that some events that normally wouldn't occur could create serious problems for the session. I'm likely to explore certain titles I've analyzed before in other posts, so while that's about all I can say for the Prince of Light right now, rest assured I've got some ideas brewing. Hope you enjoyed!
