librarian affirmations:
i like the smell of dead rat
dead rat in the wall cannot hurt me
rat being dead in the wall for three years is a Good scent to smell
i am glad the staff bathroom smells like dead rat
dead rat smell is not disgusting at all but sweet and comforting
i am most at home when i remember dead rat in the wall
library patrons understand that the staff bathroom which they cannot access smells like dead rat and they know it contributes to my positive aura and helpful customer service 🙂
it wouldn't be a library without dead rat in the wall
These are check ins from two different families. I love seeing the books my kids check out! It’s rarely what you would expect. Even the children who come in just for Dog Man or Wimpy Kid will sometimes step out of their comfort zone with a new series or a nonfiction title. Overall I think kids do a better job of reading widely than adults.
just heard a guy outside shout "I spy with my little eye... THE LIBRARY!" and then a bunch of kids cheered
Shout out to my library holds for coming in on a Friday so I can stay up all night reading 🔦

Stacks on stacks on stacks
Working in a library and getting to interact with all these people of all ages and backgrounds, all coming to seek knowledge and quiet and make friends in the peaceful oasis of books and having such a wonderful group of coworkers that love and support me no matter what is like trust falling back into a cloud and finding that not only does it hold me steadfast, but I have also never felt safer or more in love with the world.
hey did you know only 3% of materials complaints in the U.S. (calls for book bans) come from individual parents?
meanwhile, 92% come from pressure groups and government officials?
oh, oh, and 40% of alllll the books these groups want to ban are stories of racialized and/or queer people?
and hey wouldn't ya know? alllll of these numbers skyrocketed after 2020, with the global rise in fascist ideologies.
State of America’s Libraries Report reveals 4,235 unique titles challenged in 2025, marking the second-highest total on record
