Barnaby Joyce will return to the nation's second highest office, marking a political comeback three years after losing the deputy prime ministership to scandal.
The beetroot has returned as Deputy PM :/
Scomo isn't fit to be Australia's PM. We saw it with the bushfires over summer, with the sports rorts corruption scandal, and we're seeing it again with Covid-19.
He's shown us time and time again that he doesn't care about you unless you're a rich, white mate of his, or an LNP donor.
Leadership Is Reserved For The Right Kind Of Man
The federal Liberal Party returned to their spots, as the beast that reckons females have their place beneath a man. For many years, the Libs argued that it was purely based on merit why they had so few women in positions of power. Pull the other one boys. This sons of Anglo-settler political party sees power as the natural home of men born to rule. Going to the right private school and ascending gracefully via a network of old boys is the Liberal Party way. Sure, the odd woman, who can act like a bloke, is neither here nor there; but leadership is reserved for the right kind of man.
Sussan Ley Was Not The Right Kind Of Leader/Man
The proof is in the pudding folks. Over some 82 years, how many female leaders have the Libs had at the federal level? One. Only one, you say, and how long did she last? Not very long. 276 days in fact. The second shortest stint as leader ever, after Alexander Downer – and he was born to rule, if you go by mummy and daddy. Sussan was a bit shrill, there is no denying that. However, what you get in Aussie politics is women who feel that they have to act like men to compete. It is an evolving situation and things on the Labor/Green side are getting better re-female representation and what it is like for them. Power is a shit fight. Power seekers are not nice people, generally. Yes, you heard it here first, folks.
Right Wing Men See The World As A Place To Be Led By Them
Malcom Turnbull, a former Lib PM, who was ousted by the lying Scott Morrison, hit the nail on the head, when he called out the populist, Sky News Australia, dog eating its own vomit proclivity of the current Liberal party. The odious, leering Tony Abbott and his equally vile former chief of staff, Peta Credlin, have been beating the far Right drum to the detriment of the once successful centrist Right political party. Sucking up to Donald Trump and his cabinet of extremist nutjobs and billionaire crooks is not going to win any elections downunder. Abbot, another former Lib PM, was rejected by his own party as leader before being seen off by his electorate. Since then, Tony Abbott has appeared more and more bitter and deranged. If the Libs keep listening to Tony and Peta they are bound for further obscurity. One Nation is putting them in the shade already. Toxic masculinity is not a big vote winner in federal elections in Australia. There are only so many tradies to go around. The LNP has gifted them large tax breaks on their work vehicles and diesel rebates for their mates as well. There are ‘so-called’ tradies driving around in Utes costing half a million dollars.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hJraTgvZ2Xg Liberal Party Is A Populist Backward Thinking Minor Party
Apparently, Sussan Ley is giving the game away, after her dumping by the bloke-centric Liberal Party of Australia. She didn’t understand that leadership is reserved for the right kind of man. The few moderates lefts in the Libs, those that have not deserted to Teal independents, could not hold the line against the hard Right boys and traitors like Hume. Is there anything worse than a traitor to something as fundamental as your sex? Women who believe that coming second is their natural place, betray their sisters and daughters. The Liberal Party of Australia is no role model for our younger girls growing up today to aspire to. Populist backward thinking dominates this minor political party.
“The Liberal Party waited eight decades to name a woman to lead it, and in the end, they couldn't stomach it for even a year.
Perhaps that was always the plan. From the moment Sussan Ley won the ballot, cementing her status as one of parliament's firsts, some colleagues were already counting down to the day she fell.
New leaders tasked with cleaning up the effluent of a lost election rarely make it to the Lodge.”
- (https://www.abc.net.au/news/2026-02-13/sussan-ley-s-time-as-liberal-leader/106045934) Australia Is Not Some Racist Backwater
It does not take Cher, straddling a naval artillery gun, to tell me that you cannot turn back time. Populist pretenders like Pauline Hanson cannot make Australia into a racist small town with a mouthy fish and chip shop owner slagging off immigrants and refugees. Anglo-racists will not destroy the tolerance Aussies, who live in the cities, have for their multicultural Australia. How many seats do One Nation have in the house of representatives? One. And they only got that via Barnaby Joyce defecting to them. One Nation = one seat. Labor = 94 seats. What we do have in Australia is a right wing legacy media dominated by the Murdoch press. This gives a distorted view of the Australia. Thus, the BS around One Nation. We could do with a media landscape that actually reflects who we are as Australians, instead of News Corp pushing its own Right wing agenda. Donald Trump is not popular downunder. Gina Rinehart, the billionaire funder of the Right who now lives in America, is not reflective of who we are. Clive Palmer ditto. We need to stand up to these oligarchs who want to rule us. There is too much influence being bought by rich people and companies downunder. These individuals and corporations do not even pay their fair share of tax. Wake up Australia.
White Australia & News Corp
“A guy throws a bomb into a crowd of thousands of people. Luckily it does not go off, but if it had, it would have killed and maimed possibly hundreds of people. His lawyer successfully argues to have the bomb thrower’s name suppressed on the grounds of protecting his safety. WTF? What kind of country do we live in? Our justice system protects the anonymity of a wilful bomb thrower who wanted to hurt and kill Aboriginal people and managed to disperse a peaceful protest. White Australia worries about the safety of a bomb throwing terrorist. This is what is wrong with our justice system. Protecting perpetrators at the expense of our right to have these scumbags named and shamed. This happened in Perth on Invasion/Australia Day. There has been very little media coverage of this bomb throwing event in the right wing media, which dominates the Australian media landscape. Strange that, perhaps if it wasn’t at a brown skinned gathering it would have been given more attention by the Murdoch press.”

Liberal Party Finally Finds A Female Leader
It only took them 81 years, but in Australia, the federal Liberal Party finally found a female leader. Of course, they only make these calls on merit and getting pantsed at the last federal election had nothing to do with it. I find in Australia, the Anglo-settler psyche only turns to women as a last resort and there are numerous examples of this over the recent journey. This is all about power and traditional blokes believe that they are best served by one of them holding the reins, so to speak. Peter Dutton made a meal of it but just about every recent Liberal leader has been turfed out of office by their own electorate in recent years.
Sussan Ley & That Glass Ceiling In The Libs
People who go around thinking that gender equality is already here are sorely mistaken. Look at the Catholic Church, how long have they been operating and treating women as second class citizens? Millennia! The new Pope Leo XIV may well be a moderate but he aint a woman. Sussan Ley is the new leader of the Australian Liberal Party. The Libs have been decimated at the last election and have less than half the amount of seats as Labor. Australians rejected the Trumpian hard Right divisive style of politics and policies promoted by Peter Dutton. Temu Trump did not fly when push came to shove downunder.
Liberal Party Full Of Right Wing Cavemen The average Liberal voter is a bloke in his 70’s and the average Australian is a 37 YO woman. Good luck squaring that equation Sussan Ley. The neoconservatives inhabiting the Liberal Party want to turn the clock back to a time when white men were the only real consideration in the power stakes. They think that diversity is a dirty word. They love the anti-woke, anti-DEI messaging of Donald Trump. They attack those that dare to ask for equality if they are not the same as them. Trans folk are continually under fire for their very existence. Immigrants and refugees are blamed for every problem. Indigenous Australians should give up their heritage and assimilate according to the Dutton led No campaign during the Voice referendum. Aussies piled on the negative disinformation spread under the auspices of the slogan –‘if you don’t know vote No.’ What kind of dumb praising BS was that! “The Liberal Party of Australia have won no metropolitan seats in Adelaide and almost none in Sydney and Melbourne. Where does the greater part of the Oz population reside? In the cities, of course. Modern Australia no longer represented by Libs. This once popular political party is no longer representative of the modern Australia and Australians. Peter Dutton led the Libs further Right and has taken them into the smaller territory of that extremist category within the political sphere. It features a male dominated, Anglo-settler white is right, ethos which regularly attacks multiculturalism, refugees, LGBTQI folk, renewables and climate change, and ‘woke’ – which is really an attack on smart women and diversity. Inspired by Trump in the US, the Libs want to turn the clock back to an Australia where patriarchy and white men rule the roost and others know their place at the back of the queue.” - (https://wordsforweb.com.au/modern-australia-no-longer-represented-by-libs/)
Libs Are The Self-Interest Party Self -interest is the most apparent message to emerge out of the Libs over recent decades. They are the political party of the selfish voter almost entirely focussed on their own hip pocket concerns. ‘What’s in it for me!’ Howard and his ilk normalised greed over community values. The tax changes he initiated slashing the capital gains tax by 50% and all the superannuation tax law modifications widened the gulf between haves and ‘have nots’ in Australia. Property and capital are immunised from tax, which means workers paying income tax have to carry the burden for the nation, whilst the wealthy divert their wealth into super boltholes and property with negative gearing to boot. Privatisation has seen public assets transferred into private hands. The public good has been robbed of wealth and popular appreciation by the Liberal Party over decades. Dutton coming out with attacks on the civil service was the last straw for voters sick of the corruption and jobs for the boys which have thrived under neoliberalism. “The closeness of Sussan Ley's win over Angus Taylor — 29 votes to 25 — suggests the games are far from over. Three of Ley's votes are outgoing senators who leave the party room on July 1 when the new Senate begins. That makes her a notional one-vote winner of the leadership ballot.” - (https://www.abc.net.au/news/2025-05-13/liberal-leadership-party-room-meeting-sussan-ley-angus-taylor/105286624)
Photo by Photo By: Kaboompics.com on Pexels.com Real Change Is Demanded I cannot see the Liberal Party reforming much beyond window dressing under Sussan Ley. Their basic values are morally bankrupt, in my opinion. Australia desperately needs to rebalance the wealth and power dynamics which have seen millions locked out of home ownership and paying unaffordable rents on housing. This will not occur via tinkering around the edges, it will take bold changes to taxation laws. We will have to see who has the heart for such legislation, as generational change continues in Australia amid the electorate. Younger Aussies are sick of bearing the financial brunt of inequity downunder. Ding Dong The Dutton Witch Is Dead
“Once there was a wicked witch in the lovely land of Oz And a wickeder, wickeder, wickeder witch there never, never was.” Voldemort has fallen in the seat of Dickson and the divisive Peter Dutton is politically dead. Now, Jim Chalmers decently said he was not one to dance on the grave of a political opponent. However, if you live by the sword you die by the sword and Mr Dutton was an aggressive and polarising figure on the Australian political stage. The Liberal Party has lost the 2025 federal election in a landslide to Labor. Ding dong the Dutton witch is dead. Long live Australia. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6vh9OAjR9ik
Dutton’s Damaging Populism Rejected By Australians
Australians have overwhelmingly voted against Peter Dutton and his LNP Coalition vision for Australia. The Trump aligned conservatives were soundly rejected by the nation. I don’t think the mainstream media picked up on the extent of the rejection of Coalition policies because it is unduly influenced by right wing norms. The Australian media is controlled by the Murdoch press – News Corp newspapers, TV and radio networks. Even the timid ABC follows the tone of the Murdoch press. This media is no longer representative of our population, as younger demographics have moved on and there is no mainstream progressive media in this country. Strongman Politics Of Peter Dutton Dies Downunder The Dutton campaign has been roundly condemned as one of the poorest on record. The Trump 2.0 regime in the US attacking friends and allies with economic tariffs and extremist policies was particularly bad timing for the Dutton campaign. Australians do not like extremists of whatever persuasion and the chaos and uncertainty unleashed by Donald Trump sent shockwaves downunder. Combine this with crazy notions of nuclear power and unfunded policies, more generally, right up to the last minute by the Coalition and it spelt decimation. The biased right wing media in Australia maintained norms that have been shown not to be shared by a majority of the voting population. Peter Dutton was divisive and borderline racist throughout his time as opposition leader. The multicultural reality of a modern Australia crushed his political aspirations when push came to shove in the shadow of Trump. “The Trump campaign chief was in Australia advising Peter Dutton’s Liberal Party in the run up to the federal election. This answers that question about the ties between Peter Dutton and Donald Trump’s Republican Party in the US. If, as the Trump campaign chief claims, he was downunder advising the Liberal Party campaign we can observe the close links between the two organisations. “ - (https://www.midasword.com.au/trump-campaign-advised-peter-dutton-in-australia/) “Australia has fired Peter Dutton into the Sun, taking much of the Liberal Party and its future with him. Standing in the vapour wake stood a euphoric and unimpeded Anthony Albanese, whose campaign was as devastating, driven and determined as Dutton's was dreadful, deluded and doomed.” - (https://www.abc.net.au/news/2025-05-03/voters-reject-peter-dutton-vision-labor-victory/105247610)
Australian Media Landscape Needs Shake Up Perhaps, it is time to have a realignment of the media landscape in Australia, which accurately represents the makeup of the nation? Ding dong the Dutton witch is dead. Perhaps, the real witch is Murdoch and my cry for the dead witch is premature? I know that many Australians are heartily sick of right wing editorials and op-eds filling the airwaves and tabloids when these are only supported by a minority of the population. The ALP embraced social media influencers and gave generous access to this new generation of media. This has proved to be a smart strategy. Dutton Went Trump Inspired Further Right Many politically astute Aussies were surprised after the 2022 defeat of Morrison by Albanese that Peter Dutton was elected to the leadership of the Liberals. Dutton was further Right and the party had just been decimated by the Teals in metropolitan seats. Peter Dutton embraced the Donald Trump led Republican Party strategy of going hard on divisive gender based anti-woke culture war campaigning. This approach was never going to recover those lost metro Liberal seats now in the hands of Teals. In the cold hard light of the morning after this election it has proved to be a losing strategy in Australia. The Liberal Party is fast becoming an irrelevant political force in a modern Australia as a major party. If its message is not embraced by Australians, where to now for the Libs? Turning the clock back to a time when women and diverse members of the nation were treated like second class citizens has not proven to be popular in Oz. Young Australians seem to be much smarter than their American counterparts on this score. The ideological stance of the LNP against renewables and their extreme take up of nuclear power was another serious problem for the Coalition with the electorate. I don’t think Australia wanted to risk another spate of lost years in the climate change challenge. 10 years under Abbott, Turnbull and Morrison were enough to rue in this regard. Trump Campaign Advised Peter Dutton In Australia
The Trump campaign chief was in Australia advising Peter Dutton’s Liberal Party in the run up to the federal election. This answers that question about the ties between Peter Dutton and Donald Trump’s Republican Party in the US. If, as the Trump campaign chief claims, he was downunder advising the Liberal Party campaign we can observe the close links between the two organisations. Shared aspirations and ways of going about things should send alarm bells off in the minds of Australian voters. Trump campaign advised Peter Dutton in Australia regarding his bid to become Prime Minister in the 2025 election. “One of the architects of Donald Trump’s 2024 victory claims he made an unpublicised visit to Australia to advise the Liberal party about “structural issues” related to Peter Dutton ahead of the federal election.” - (https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2025/may/01/trump-campaign-chief-lacivita-liberal-party-australia-ntwnfb-election-claims)
“I Don’t Know Donald Trump”: Says Dutton
Lying by omission is a skill in the kitbags of many politicians and Peter Dutton is no outlier on this. “I don’t know Donald Trump.” This statement made by Peter Dutton during the leader’s debate was, perhaps, less than exacting. The global backlash against the Trump regime in America has been profound. Suddenly, the strongman of OZ politics was back peddling to escape comparisons with his inspiration – Donald J Trump. A bit like when Dutton was asked whether he acknowledged climate change as real – “I am not a scientist.” This mealy mouthed answer gave little away and was no real answer on an important topic. “Asked whether they trusted Mr Trump, Mr Dutton responded he had never met the man and would not offer an endorsement. "I don't know Donald Trump is my point. “ - (https://www.abc.net.au/news/2025-04-16/abc-leaders-debate-election-2025-takeaways/105185698) Trump Campaign Chief Advises Dutton’s Liberal Party This kind of thing reminds me of the Dutton advice during the Voice referendum. Their slogan became – ‘If you don’t know, vote No.’ Ignorance is bliss in the negative universe and keeping the punters in the dark via wilful misinformation and sewing doubt worked spectacularly well. Giving the half hearted racist leaning folk an out. Peter Dutton has been a master of the negative during his time as opposition leader. The requirements of leadership shift, however, when assuming the mantle of Prime Minister in government. Suddenly, the electorate look at you differently and wonder whether your divisive ways will serve the nation? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IWpKshluEeU Temu Trump Denies Links To His Inspiration “Brisbane, AustraliaCNN — The man vying to become Australia’s next prime minister has spent weeks trying to distance himself from comparisons to US President Donald Trump. “I’m my own person,” opposition Liberal Party leader Peter Dutton insisted, when asked for his thoughts on “Temu Trump,” the label given to him by critics referring to the Chinese website with a reputation for cheap copies.” - (https://edition.cnn.com/2025/04/30/australia/peter-dutton-policies-australia-election-intl-hnk/index.html) Political analysts say comparisons to Trump have eaten away at any lead Dutton had over incumbent center-left Labor Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, who is topping opinion polls before Saturday’s vote. Why would Peter Dutton be getting campaign advice from the Trump’s campaign chief if he was really running a different race? The truth is always in what actions happen rather than the stuff that comes out of the mouths of politicians. “Why they call Dutton ‘Temu Trump’? The Temu part of the equation involves Peter Dutton being the cheap or lite version of the Trump dictator. Plus, Temu suggests ‘made in China’, which drives much of the Australian economy in real terms. The LNP may like to regularly slag off the Chinese, as an evil communist state but many of its mining magnate friends are not averse to doing hundreds of billions of dollars’ worth of business each and every year with China. Trade, it seems, is no indicator of true feelings, when it comes to the beating heart of conservatives.” - (https://www.midasword.com.au/why-they-call-dutton-temu-trump/) Robert Sudha Hamilton is the author of America Matters: Pre-apocalyptic Posts & Essays in the Shadow of Trump. ©MidasWord

The Carney Effect: Liberals Lead for the First Time in 5 Years — Election Could Be Called by March 21
Call it the Carney Effect or the Trump Effect, if you will. In the wake of rising nationalism and Canada’s push for economic sovereignty, the Liberals have surged to a five-year high, according to a survey conducted by EKOS Research Associates. With Mark Carney gaining increasing popularity and Pierre Poilievre failing to make an impact on the key issues affecting Canada — largely influenced by…
