Rainbow Dash: Crashed while performing sonic rainboom and ended up stuck in an underground cavern. She's completely blind, but has amazing hearing. Her wings were damaged in the crash and mostly don't work anymore (the smaller one next to her was the original colours but theyre so buns lmao)

Twilight Sparkle: While trying to hatch Spike's egg, she overcharged her magic and quite literally exploded. Due to damage done to her limbs, she had to get them amputated. She honed her magic just like in canon, but for more physical spells; such as her ghostly limbs. Her horn is also discoloured from constant magical use. She's got very close ties to Zecora in this AU, is more open to friendship from an early state + doesn't have Spike (might give him to someone else?)

Pinkie Pie: The rainboom scared a mysterious creature into her families rock farm, causing chaos and the death of her parents. Limestone took over as the working adult on the farm, while Pinkie took over as caretaker. She's still a party pony, but in a more calm way. She's quieter than canon Pinkie and rarely leaves the farm because of the creatures outside.

Rarity: Went on a trip with her family as a child and somehow got separated from them. Basically pulled a Tarzan and was raised by the animals in the wilderness. She's less bothered by dirt n muck than cannon, is stronger than she looks and is willing to buck anything that threatens her. Opal's probably a lion or something in this lmao.

AppleJack: Family got into business with Flim/Flam and/or Filthy Rich earlier in her life. They were used for their farm and back stabbed by their 'sponsors'. The Apple Family basically formed into Ponyville's mafia; Applejack is the Don, while BigMac is the muscle. They secretly run Ponyville with an iron fist (hoof?). She's much colder than canon AJ, but is just as honest if not more brutal with it. She doesn't really trust anypony other than family.

Fluttershy: Abducted from her home by pirates after trying to help sea-life, she was basically forced to be the med staff on the boat until the ship crashed. She was taken a lot later in life and thus got her cutiemark very late. She's a better flier than canon fluttershy. She currently lives with merponies that found her on a bunch of rocks post-crash. She's probably also eaten flesh cus of the shipwreck.

All in all I think Fluttershy + Twilight have the closest to their canon personalities in this.

AJ has a noose wrapped around her tail + the feather in her hat is from an unruly pegasus she had to 'get rid of'

Rarity's cutiemark IS spear heads, since I think she's able to still craft n make things, but is more utility over looks

Twilight's got some kind of tie to the spirit world; either by her mutual learning time w/ Zecora, her close call with death or from her basically blowing up spike idk, but thats why her cutiemark has little whisps instead of stars

RD's colours are lighter and desaturated since she's been out the sun for so long

Fluttershy is darker due to basically tanning
