possibly my favorite Alek moment in the entire series is during the three (?) days when he and deryn are not on speaking terms after he discovers her secret, he feels betrayed and angry and isn't sure if he'll ever be on good terms with her ever again, and when Volger suggests continuing to blackmail deryn he immediately and with no hesitation says "if you ever threaten deryn sharp again, I'm done with you"
he's so ride or die for her he HAS to let volger know he fucks with her WAY more than him HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
how much has volger sacrificed for Alek? how much has he given up? how much insane effort has he put in with the only goal being Alek's survival and success? Alek isn't just saying "If you threaten deryn I'm done with you" he's saying "if you threaten deryn I'm choosing her over everything you've worked for" wayyyyyy before he actually does exactly that--way before he even REALIZES that's what he means!!!
worst part is he's so dumb he doesn't realize that's what he's saying and he doesn't realize he means it. sigh. i love him.
