Hi! This is a question I get asked a lot so I hope it’s okay that I publish this :)
I studied Japanese at university for two years before studying in Tokyo for another year and now I take a class once a week. But mostly, I do a lot of self-study. Even when I’m watching TV shows I’m often writing down notes of sentence structure, vocab and the differences between male and female speech. I also try to read manga, easy short stories and magazines with our boys in them. Plus, I have some online language exchange partners who help me constantly practice. I hope you have a great experience learning Japanese! It can be a lot of work, but it’s really rewarding. Exposure to fandom will help a lot, I’m sure!
