I’m still baffled at 78 Marius
What was his side burns
A very, very good question. And that moustache? Just . . . Who was making these production choices? So many questions.
Oh, and look at this poster for the film - apparently Les Misérables is a revenge story now? I mean . . . How did they misread the source material so poorly? Basically the opposite of what happens to Wuthering Heights in adaptations.
Please send help.
I’m still baffled about Marius in 78
RIGHT?? Firstly, I don't understand how he is attractive (that might be the sapphic in me, but his hair sure isn't helping). Second, whose idea was it to take all the worst parts of Marius and use those to construct his character?? And not having the passing of time that happens in the Brick . . . I get that his and Cosette's relationship is insta-love in the Brick, but at least he doesn't ask for her hand in marriage after knowing her for mere days. Imagine the people who watched this movie when it aired in 1978 who had never read the Brick and this was all they knew about Marius' character.
Okay I should be going to sleep now but I have more thoughts. WHAT THE HECK LES MIS 1978! HOW DO YOU TAKE A STORY THAT IS KNOWN FOR BEING ROMANTIC AND MELODRAMATIC AND PASSIONATE AND MAKE IT AS BORING AND UNEMOTIONAL AS YOU POSSIBLY CAN?! The only emotionality that existed in that film was the homoeroticism between Javert and Valjean. But otherwise? No depth for Fantine, for Les Amis, for anything else. Aside from two hours objectively not being enough time to tell the story, YOU COULD HAVE ADDED AT LEAST A LITTLE MORE IF YOU DIDN'T SPEND 30 FUCKING MINUTES ON JVJ TRYING TO ESCAPE TOULON!!!! I just do not understand how this film sapped all the emotions (again, apart from the Javert/JVJ homoeroticism) out of the Brick.
what did we learn from 1978 les mis
- Cosette is really pretty and should have gone back to the convent and got into a lesbian relationship there rather than marrying child kicking Marius
- 1978 Marius is a dick
- JVJ is very good at jumping into rivers and his escape attempts are definitely worth 30 minutes of a 2 hour film /j
- Éponine who's that
- Bilbo Baggins cameo
- Fantine was done dirty
- pacing? That doesn't matter! 1000 pages can fit in 40 minutes!
- Les Amis have zero characterization (apart from Marius being a dick)
- well at least JVJ gets the yellow vest
- STOP WITH THE 1970S HAIRCUTS FOR LES AMIS!!
- racist festival scene
- Marius apparently sustained no injury from the barricade??
- nobody's sad that Gavroche died
- they could have at least added a barricade cow
- fodhevrduckauqgrbtgifbtekfj wtf wtf wtf wtf
- seriously what does Cosette see in 1978 Marius
