My ROOK HUNT Relationships Headcanons
My personal headcanons about Rookâs relationship with some characters of the cast.
[â ïžContent warningsâ ïž]: spoilers (book 5, 6 & 7. Also some Rookâs cards), ooc (maybe, most in the lovers section), mentions of dr*gs, some suggestive themes, mentions of harassment, parental neglect, unusual hobbies, kidnapping.
Close Friends:
Trey Clover, Kalim Al-Asim, Epel Felmier
TREY CLOVER:
His friend and fellow member of the science club. I think their relationship is a strong friendship. Trey is a patient man, capable of putting up with Rookâs eccentricity.
My headcanon is that they both see each other as close friends, close enough to share their deepest interests.
I donât doubt that at some point they did something crazy in the club, like making explosives or planting some kind of hallucinogenic herb (if you know what I mean).
feel that, with Rookâs hobby of taking pictures of the non-human students at NRC and Treyâs obsession with dental hygiene and teeth, those two have probably made a tier list of some studentsâ teeth. Weird, yes, but everyone there is weird
I also wouldnât be surprised if those two had a bit of romantic or s*xual tension between them, maybe even explored their sexuality with each other, but beyond that, I donât really see them in a relationship.
KALIM AL-ASIM:
Another member of NRCâs light trio, Kalim is a ray of sunshine, cheerful and outgoing. It wouldnât be strange if he and Rook considered each other great friends.
I feel like those two could talk for hours and still keep their energy up. They could go running, dancing, attend one of Kalimâs parties, and still have the same cheerful attitude afterward.
After Book 5 and the VDC, I canât help but imagine them having karaoke nights or doing movie marathons of Neigeâs films.
Kalim has mentioned that, as the first son and heir of the Al-Asim family, he has faced multiple poisoning and/or kidnapping attempts. And although NRC, with its magical barrier (as mentioned in Book 6), is a safe place, I wouldnât be surprised that, if their friendship continue in the future, Rook would be capable of protecting Kalim from such threats. Let me explain. Rook has highly developed senses and is an excellent hunter; he can perceive and notice things that others wouldnât at first glance. He also has a presence that can be quite intimidating, in addition to knowing magic and archery. If Jamil werenât around and Kalim couldnât defend himself with magic, I feel Rook could step in to help, and maybe even scare the kidnapper for life.
EPEL FELMIER:
Epel, first-year student from Pomefiore, who has been taken under Vilâs care, guidance, and protection more than any other student. Without a doubt, Epel and Rook are good friends.
Since Rook is his superior and vice housewarden, heâs in charge of looking after and keeping an eye on him. And while I donât doubt that Rook would tell Vil everything, I think it depends on what Epel can offer in return for Rook to keep quiet and not snitch on him if he does something Vil forbids (like speaking in his accent, btw, Iâm 100% sure Rook loves and finds it beautiful).
I also have the headcanon that, with Vilâs approval and supervision, Rook taught Epel how to use a bow. And of course, Epel would be happy to finally do something in Pomefiore that isnât ballet. I also feel that Rook could teach him other useful skills, like how to identify nearby animals, recognize their tracks, and tell which fruits or berries are edible and which arenât, among other things.
Since Rookâs family has teleports in various parts of Twisted Wonderland, I wouldnât be surprised if they had one close enough to Epelâs hometown for Rook to visit him, meet his family, and maybe even bring Vil along so they can reminisce about their old days at NRC.
FAMILY:
We donât have much canon information about Rookâs family other than the following: he has 2 parents (lol), 2 older siblings, and 3 younger siblings. We also know that his family is wealthy and holds some influence (since they own teleportation gates in several places across different countries, which Epel mentions requires a special permit from the gov). Itâs also canon that his parents lost Rook in a jungle for about 6 to 9 months, and he wasnât found until a rescue team discovered him collapsed on the ground. (Parents of the year, huh?) Rook also mentions that family gatherings are chaotic, with lots of people, and that they donât happen very often. Also, the last canon fact we know is that his parents gave him two tickets to a play for his birthday.
Taking all this information, I have a few small headcanons.
His family is big and travels quite often. Rook is the middle child, which probably makes him the âforgottenâ one, not old enough to have responsibilities, but not young enough to be protected. Since his family is already large and chaotic, itâs likely that they didnât pay much attention to him, which could explain how he got lost and ended up living in the jungle for all those months.
Also, based on my headcanon (and from what Rook himself says about his childhood behavior and clear hyperfixations), I believe Rook could be on the autism spectrum. That might have made his parents and siblings pay even less attention to him, seeing him as a âweirdâ child who couldnât properly express his emotions.
Still, I feel that his family loves him, in their own way. And while thatâs not justifiable, Rook doesnât seem to hold a grudge against them. What his family does give him, without a doubt, is financial support and enough freedom for him to pursue his hobbies and do his own thing.
IDOLS:
Neige LeBlanche
NEIGE LEBLANCHE:
Since Rook had trouble expressing his emotions as a child, it was through theater and cinema that he learned how to express himself, transforming into the theatrical and dramatic man we know today. One of the figures who guided him was Neige.
To Rook, Neige is an angel, a kind, noble, and gentle being. He has been his fan for many, many years, his number one (well, 000000000000000000002) supporter. He collects all his merch, has an itabag, plushies, goes to every fan meeting, writes fanfics, and would even get his autograph tattooed. He adores him. He adores him the way one adores a celestial being. Sometimes, Rook might even forget that Neige is still human, a being who suffers, who bleeds, but he loves him. He will always support him, no matter what.
However, when it comes to Neige and Vil, heâs more objective. Because that heavenly love he feels for Neige, he also feels for Vil.
LOVERS:
Vil Schoenheit, Leona Kingscholar & both
VIL SCHOENHEIT:
To Rook, Vil is a god on earth. His queen. I have no doubt that he loves him with all his humble hunterâs heart. But that love can sometimes become obsessive. As we saw in Chapter 7, if Vil hadnât been at NRC, Rook would never have transferred to Pomefiore. So we can infer that the main reason Rook transferred was because of him. Rook would follow Vil to the ends of the earth.
I have several headcanons, thereâs so much to analyze about their relationship. You could write a whole essay just about the two of them, lol.
I feel like Vil was physically attracted to Rook when he was still in Savanaclaw. He wasnât his ideal type, but he couldnât deny that Rook looked hot. Rookâs haircut change was his own idea. He wanted to impress Vil and look more handsome for him. And even if Vil wonât admit it, he liked that wild air about him.
Rook is Vilâs right-hand man, so I wouldnât be surprised if they spent a lot of intimate time together, like doing each otherâs makeup, bathing together, feeding each other. These two have seen everything about one another and know everything about the other. They are capable of reading each other and seeing through each otherâs masks. Although, of course, they have the patience and respect to understand that if the other keeps certain things private, itâs for a reason.
Vil was Rookâs first gay crush. When he saw him perform for the first time, he fell in love with him.
LEONA KINGSCHOLAR:
If Vil was Rookâs first gay crush, Leona was his first boyfriend. Ok, hear me out, now Iâm going to explain my headcanon, but first, letâs look at the canon information we have about both of them.
Leona and Rook have an interesting relationship. Rook has a crush on Leona, 100%, heâs always watching him and commenting on how handsome and fierce he looks. On the other hand, Leona seems exhausted by Rook, annoyed that heâs always observing him, bothering him, and with all his energy. Also, if we consider that Leona has been at NRC for five years, 1 year he wasnât there and 1 year he repeated, then we can infer that when Rook entered as a first-year, Leona was in second-year.
Now, the headcanons.
Leona mentions that he currently doesnât have a vice housewarden, but he had several in the past. My headcanon is that one of his vice housewardens was Rook, back when Rook was still in Savanaclaw. I think that, as his vice housewarden, Rook had the chance to get to know Leona, spend time with him, and even have a small romance. My headcanon is that before Rook met Vil, he and Leona had an intense romance, characterized by playful rivalry and a âhunter-preyâ dynamic. I also think that Leona was Rookâs first time, his first boyfriend, his first kiss, his first s*xual experience, but not his first love. That first love was Vil.
After Rook transferred, Leona saw it as a betrayal, which explains the strange nature of their current relationship.
BOTH:
Now, both of them, and my headcanon/view of their current relationship. For me, Leona is Rookâs ex. Buttttt⊠Vilâs partner. Yes, LeoVilRook canon. But how? Vil and Leona are a couple, all those interactions, all those looks, theyâre together. And what does Rook think? A mix of fascination, arousal, and jealousy. Fascination, because itâs Roi du Lions and Roi du Poisons who are together. The queen of Pomefiore and the king of Savanaclaw. The most handsome man in Twisted Wonderland and the second prince of Sunset Savanna. Two strong, beautiful men with huge personalities. Arousal, because, well⊠he still has a crush on both. He fantasizes about being with them. But why doesnât he? To be the Rouxls Kaard of the relationship. He wonât allow himself. And thatâs why thereâs jealousy, he knows theyâre both out of his league, that theyâre not made for him. So he observes, watches from afar like a hunter would, adoring them in the distance. And heâll probably never have the courage to be honest about his feelings toward them.
But if the three of them were together⊠Leona is top, Vil is switch, and Rook is bottom ;D
Byeee
Last post Iâll probably be making on here for a bit since the end of break is coming up and Iâm back in the factory making more oc references, but Iâve been super into Twisted Wonderland recently and my friend got me to draw these three.
Theyâre literally cannon atp like what. I did struggle a lot with this background and lighting but we stay persistent.
This was inspired by the fact that rook hasnât greeted me in game for over two weeks now and it was making me sad so my husband and I had to come up with an excuse as to why heâs been away
But anyways, about once a year, Rook feels the need to âbecome one with natureâ and disappears for 1-2 weeks to accomplish this goal. Goes completely off-grid to some far away cabin, shack, or make-shift campsite and roughs it, completely disconnected from any technology and the outside world. The location changes pretty much every year, with some repeats.
He allows himself to use magic because he believes magic is intrinsically tied to nature but other than that he basically just uses his survival skills. He obviously packs a camping bag with emergency rations, first aid kit, camping supplies, and his hunting equipment. He has like flares and shit in case he gets lost. He also brings a diary and paper to sketch and paint on. He does a lot of self-reflection, a lot of sitting in silence with his thoughts, and a lot of writing about his experiences and drawing/painting things he sees in nature. He also hunts A LOT. He has learned how to preserve what he hunts from a young age so he ends up bringing back a decent amount of wild game and animal pelts that heâll sell to Sam when he gets back, while heâs in school. After he graduates heâll keep most of it for himself, will sometimes trade or sell the pelts if he has no use for them. Does a lot of foraging as well. Usually brings back random herbal tea mixtures and face scrubs and other things he has made for Vil from the wild plants that he finds.
While in school I think he typically does it during spring break because his family is never home so instead of going to visit them he just fucks off into the woods for a week. The first time it happens while he and Vil are dating, Vil freaks the fuck out because he has no idea where Rook is, what heâs doing, and Rook is not answering his phone. It⊠didnât really occur to Rook to tell Vil where he was going. This is sort of⊠his alone time. Rook is typically a very clingy person and this is the only time all year that he wants to be by himself so he can reconnect with the beauty of nature. Vil was inconsolable. When Rook comes back he almost gets broken up with. After that, when Rook wants to go, from now on he will tell Vil the dates and his location but beyond that he is out of contact until he returns home
The first time Rook asks Vil to come with him is a really big deal. Vil has always known rook wants to be alone on his tripsâso he knows how much it means to rook when rook asks him to come with him. Vil is not afraid of roughing it. He accepts the challenge eagerly. It changes their relationship forever. It is a deep act of intimacy for both of them and an experience Vil will never forget. He doesnât go with rook every year after that, but Rook asks him more often than not.
The first time Leona gets asked to go is also a huge deal, as again, it symbolizes a huge step in their relationship that rook is inviting Leona to intrude upon something so sacred to him. But vil and Leona represent different parts of the nature that rook finds so beautiful. When vil comes with rook, he enjoys hiking, swimming, sitting on the beach by the lake, watching rook draw flowers and animals, cooking rookâs latest catch together⊠but he doesnât like hunting, spelunking, white water rafting, or anything that rook does to seek out a thrill. For as lazy as Leona is, he prefers the adventurous activities. Taking this trip together is intense, and competitive, and intimate because of that. Rook and Leona are both the type of person who can reached into the water and catch a fish with their bare hands. They make a game out of hunting together. Both of them end up battered and beaten up by nature (and probably each other) by the end of it but neither of them have ever felt more alive before, or more in love
When both of them come with Rook, he gets to experience all that he sets out for with at least one of his partners by his side at all times. When Rook gets back from his trips, vil and Leona get to read the letters he wrote to them while he was gone, or even while they were gone together. Even Leona canât help getting choked up by them. They are always filled with such raw emotion and neither of them can believe they deserve a partner as poetic, romantic, loving, and selfless as Rook is

Anon Iâve been thinking about this ask all day giggling and kicking my feet n shit I was at work so I couldnât answer until now, but Iâm so glad that you asked!
Leorookvil means so much to me đ«¶
I think that Rook has sort of always had eyes on both Leona and Vil from a distance right? Leona is the prince of Rookâs homeland and Vil is his favorite actor. The fact that he gets to go to school with both of them is a bit jarringâbut Leona would never give Rook the time of day when Rook was in Savanaclaw. Rook was deeply lonely in Savanaclaw, did not have any friends, and was certainly not close to Leona although he made effort to be. Vil was a different story, obviously. The two fell in love during the winter of their first year, Rook transferred to Pomefiore, and the rest was history.
Vil and Leona did not start taking an interest in each other until Vil took up the position of Housewarden, which is probably about a year after Leona. At that point Vil and Leona are bickering constantly, always getting on each otherâs nerves, at each otherâs throats, but Rook knows there is something there. Leona doesnât talk to anyone he thinks is beneath him, and although heâs obligated to work together to some extent with his fellow housewardens, he gives none of them the attention that he gives to Vil.
