i cried so much while watching it, but i honestly really liked the ending. it’s not what i originally wanted, but i can’t think of a realistic ending where the characters would be happier

The demon goes through all the trouble of stealthily taking down the guards around the exterior of the home and sensing where oh where his little quarry might be. He scans through each room until one pops out, nearly at the furthest end of the manor. Silently, he flies up to the second floor window and lets himself inside. Under the covers of a massively oversized bed are two little boys, each a mirror of the other. Since his master only seemed to know about one of them, he decides to only take the one closest to the window. It'd make for even more delectable anguish once his master found out they had a spare.

Sebastian softly clamps a hand over the boy's mouth, and those wide, blue eyes shoot open instantly. "Shhhhh," Sebastian whispers, "My apologies, but I'll be taking you with me. If you want him to live"— he looks at the other boy, peacefully sleeping beside this one, then back at this frightened little rabbit, —"you'll stay quiet."

This boy's breath on his hand comes in warm, scared little pants, but he makes no sound, no fuss, no anything. Sebastian smiles and scoops him up, spiriting him away out the window. "Good boy."

They're heading back to Sebastian's master now, flitting through trees and boroughs alike. "You.. what are you...?" the boy asks him.

Sebastian's eyes widen a touch, but he reins in his surprise before the boy notices. "What I am is of no concern to a whelp like you. If I were you, I'd be more worried about where I intend to take you."

The boy chuckled a bit, a mirthless, almost resigned sound tinkling through the air like a broken windchime. "It doesn't really matter where I'm taken. Whoever wanted this won't live that much longer anways."

Sebastian nearly stops. Nearly. This time, he didn't bother to hold back his shock, looking squarely at the little captive in his arms.

Knock on wood but times are getting extremely worrisome, each summer is getting hotter and more deadly than the last, and people are being displaced from their homes at an alarming rate. Not just people but their animals too.

I know in the grand scheme of things this is not the most troubling thing happening in our world but it’s scary none the less.
