Swipe! In my practice, it is not uncommon to see patients presenting with multiple bumps and lesions. Involving many joints, these boggy masses are usually from tuberculosis and do very well managed medically. Here, we have a patient with multiple lesions on the leg presenting with night pain, allodynia, and there is neuralgia from mass effect as well as motor weakness in the anterior leg. There are enchondromas present elsewhere in the body but not shown here. (A) Hemangiomas are seen on coronal and sagittal MRI cuts, labelled 1, 2 and 3. The ultrasound slide is included showing tumor vascularity. (B) Inserting needles into the tumor and injecting a radio-opaque sclerosing agent for intralesional control. #maffuccisyndrome #orthopaedics #footandankle #hemangioma #legpain #patienthappy #aotrauma #pieytobillo #bacolodfootdoctor #firstloveistrauma #elderly #radiology #tumor #vascularintervention #trauma #couldbeworse #empathy #fluoroscopy #pregabalin #paincontrol https://www.instagram.com/p/BnctChKgc-q/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1604fste4a1ua
Running is horrible
At least sometimes. Like today. I think I need to follow my own advice - the best thing about a bad run is the next one is usually awesome. Saturday better be great.
I was meant to do 1 mile slow, 1 mile fast, 2 minutes recovery, 1 mile fast, 2 minutes recovery, 1 mile fast, 1 mile slow. I did 1 mile slow, 1 mile fast, 2 minutes recovery, and about half a mile fast before my gut and my legs betrayed me. I don’t understand how I can do 15km on Sunday and 8km on Tuesday and burn out after 3.5km today. Maybe my “fast” effort was too fast? I tried to keep going after I did a bit of stretching, and made it another 1.3km before I had to stop. Stupid sport.
I decided I need to stretch more/better so I did some yoga tonight (thank you @yaboymillhoy - check out his yoga/stretching/recovery videos at https://www.youtube.com/user/yaboymillhoy), and I’ll hit up the gym tomorrow for the usual Friday morning Pilates class. I’ve resolved to work on body strength a bit, so I’m going to start doing 3 gym sessions a week - pump (which is apparently a strength and conditioning thing?) on a Monday, pump or bodyweight suspension on a Wednesday, and Pilates on a Friday. Everybody I know who’s any good at running has a reasonable strength regime, but then it seems like the elites don’t focus as much on strength. I don’t know. Confused. I’ll give it a try and see what happens I guess. Worst case I stop doing it. Best case it helps my running :)
10 Early Warning Signs of Varicose Veins You Should Never Ignore
Varicose veins are more than just a cosmetic concern. They are a sign that the veins in your legs are not functioning properly, leading to poor blood circulation. Ignoring the early varicose veins symptoms can allow the condition to worsen, increasing the risk of complications such as skin changes, ulcers, blood clots, and chronic pain.
The good news is that early diagnosis and treatment can help prevent these complications. If you recognize these warning signs, it is important to consult a vascular specialist as soon as possible.

What Are Varicose Veins?
Varicose veins are enlarged, twisted veins that most commonly appear on the legs and feet. They develop when the valves inside the veins become weak or damaged, causing blood to flow backward and pool inside the veins instead of returning efficiently to the heart.
Although anyone can develop varicose veins, they are more common in people who:
Stand or sit for long hours
Are above 40 years of age
Have a family history of varicose veins
Are overweight
Are pregnant
Lead a sedentary lifestyle
1. Visible Twisted or Bulging Veins
The most recognizable sign is enlarged blue or purple veins visible beneath the skin. These veins may appear rope-like or swollen, especially around the calves and thighs.
Initially, they may not cause pain, but they often become more noticeable over time.
2. Aching or Heavy Legs
Many patients experience a persistent feeling of heaviness in their legs, especially:
After standing for long periods
Towards the evening
After physical activity
This discomfort usually improves with rest or elevating the legs.
3. Leg Pain That Worsens Throughout the Day
Unlike muscle soreness, varicose vein pain gradually increases after prolonged standing or sitting.
Patients often describe it as:
Dull aching
Throbbing
Burning discomfort
Fatigue in the legs
Why Early Treatment Matters
Ignoring varicose veins symptoms can lead to serious complications, including:
Chronic venous insufficiency
Venous ulcers
Bleeding veins
Blood clots (Superficial thrombophlebitis)
Skin infections
Permanent skin damage
Early diagnosis allows doctors to recommend minimally invasive treatments before complications develop
