It was the first time you were meeting Aerith, and you were completely dazzled. Not only was she absolutely beautiful, she was also kind and adorable. She was also meeting Barret and Marlene, and she cheerfully chatted with them and Cloud. While she did, you observed her with enthusiasm, nodding your head to show your interest.
Tifa suddenly tugged at your arm, separating you a little from them and claiming your attention. You let her, staring at her in surprise and amusement as you waited for her to say something. She didn’t. Tifa only stood there, timidly wringing her hands and staring at you.
“Tifa?” You watched her intently.
“Sorry...” She forced a smile, never meeting your eyes. “It was starting to feel like you forgot I was here”
“I was just listening to the newcomer... I thought Aerith was your friend?”
“She is, but...”
“Are you jealous?”
Tifa didn’t reply, only managing to utter a gasp. Your eyes lingered on her, watching how she frowned, blushed and stirred in the spot.
“Don’t worry” You calmly told her after a moment, lovingly wrapping an arm around her waist. “She is pretty, but I have eyes only for you”
“I know...” Tifa shook her head, finally letting her warm eyes fall over you. “It’s just... Cloud seemed to really like her too and...”
She sighed, and you know how she felt. She truly appreciated Aerith, but felt out of place when the attention always fell over her friend. It was all the more evident when you were as fascinated by Aerith as everyone else. And Tifa understood why, but she couldn’t help feeling jealous.
To comfort her, you kissed her in the forehead. The gesture made her chuckle, flustered by your sudden affection. With only a glance, you communicated all your thoughts to each other.
“Let’s go back with them” Your girlfriend muttered, and you noticed her smile becoming a bit more genuine.
“Are you okay?” You asked to make sure, squeezing her against you.
“I am” Her voice sounded warm and sweet as usual. “Thanks, Y/N”
With that, you returned by your friends’ side, joining into the conversation once more. This time, however, you didn’t let go of Tifa. Your arm lingered around her, and even as you listened to Aerith speaking, you made sure that your girlfriend didn’t feel bad again.
