Beat didn't really know much about Neku's life before they'd met in the UG, did he? He'd thought he had—he knew what school he'd gone to, knew a bit about his parents, and that he hadn't exactly had many friends. Sadly, they'd only had about a month to really get to know each other outside the Reaper's Game before everything had exploded again.
Beat can still remember Neku's expression when that Pixie Bitch had gunned him down, he can remember watching his body fade like it had never been there. The memory made Beat's heart pound and he quickly pushed it away.
"So now you know two of them Composers, huh...? 'Cept this one was your buddy. That..." Beat trails off, racking his brain for even a single word that would be able to illustrate the gravitas of how Beat felt about that. As usual, he came up empty. So, as usual, he replied with something more simple. "That fuckin' sucks, yo."
He leans over, knocking their shoulders together in a moment of physical solidarity. Hopefully, this will be enough to give Neku some comfort. Beat knew how important CAT had been to Neku, how hard Neku had resisted suspecting Hanekoma. If this guy had introduced CAT to Neku, then... he really must have meant a lot to him.
"But, uh... if he was your buddy, does that mean he's cool? How come Shinjuku got all twisted up when he was the one in charge of everything? Did his Conductor try somethin'?"
