Chris McManus, Right Hand Left Hand (2002)
sorry isnāt it fucked up that iām on the younger side of gen z, like born in the last couple years of this generation, so close to gen alpha people have tried to say i am gen alpha, and i STILL SAW A LEFTHANDED KID BE FORCED TO WRITE WITH HIS RIGHT HAND BY MAKING HIM HOLD A STONE WITH HIS LEFT HAND IN SCHOOL
WTF
The Silent Minority
You know, I see a lot of sort of people talking about being a minority, having so few representation in various medias (comics, movies, series, manga,...): People of Colors, LGBTQ+, autistic people, TDAH people, visible and invisible disabilited people, etc.
They are right, of course.
But there is a minority who is practically ignored by everyone. Do you see who am I talking about?
Left-handed people.
Yup, we are the most ignored minority! We live in the world made for right-handed: scissors, some medical tools, some video game on DS, sewing machine, computer mouse, etc.
You probably think: "it's just a hand. It's a detail." Trust me, it's not. For example in sport like: tennis, fencing, ping-pong, golf, baseball...
When I was younger, I played baseball at sportclass. When it was my turn to be the batter, the pitcher didn't know how to throw the ball at me. I wasn't standing like right-handed, I was in mirror and it was perturbing for her.
In the past, left-hand people was forced to write with their right hand... and couldn't write correctly because of this. The Christian religion claimed that the left hand was the hand of the Devil... And it was like this until 1960-1970...
Now, if you don't believe that left-handed people can't be seen as a minority, tell me what we are then?
Also, let's play a game: give me at least the name of 5 characters of whatever media who are confirmed to be left-handed.
Xion and Ventus from Kingdom Hearts don't count:
Xion is supposed to be left-handed but use her right hand.
Ventus was left-handed in the secret ending of KH2 but is right-handed in BBS, 3D and KH3
Here mine:
Us left handers only get a single day but us gays get a whole month?
(Joke if itās not clear)

"you're really gonna wear your watch on your left wrist? you're supposed to put it on your right wrist"
okay just because i'm left-handed doesn't mean i have to wear my watch on the right
let me do whatever the fuck i want with my body and my fashion choices
Bro i havent logged into tumblr in awhile why did they decide they hate left handed scrollers
Why is my like button all the way over there
Nothing quite like reading a book, being utterly confused by the hand motions, and then realizing āOh. This is a right handed thing.ā Because Iām left handed. So when the character is holding a bottle with their right hand and turning the page with their left I was confused asf, especially sitting there with my tea in my left hand and book in my right LOL.
Makes me wonder if Iāve ever included any implicit left handedness in my books by accident. WAIT- PFFT- HAHA. I did in my current WIP. I was going to assume that was a mistake but there actually is āsymbolismā behind it and Iām debating how asinine that is before finalizing it. Found another example that seems to be pure accident in my second. Found a right handed in my current WIP. Is⦠punching someone with your left hand a left handed thing? Found that. AGAIN IN MY THIRD BOOK. K Iām embarrassed yāall. Oh yeah spend hours researching idfk, nut symbolism but never second guess handedness LMAO. But I also canāt tell what āhandednessā is. Would a right handed person reach into their hood with their left hand, or did I write that in as an implicit bias towards my own mode of operations? The type of things all great scholars contemplated.
