Lee Ritenour (born January 11, 1952) is anĀ American jazz fusion guitarist, composer, and producer. Over a career spanning more than 50 years, he has established himself as one of the most prolific session musicians and solo artists in jazz and contemporary music.
Career and "Captain Fingers"
Ritenour began his professional career as a teenager, playing his first recording session with The Mamas & the Papas at age 16. He earned the nicknameĀ "Captain Fingers"Ā in the 1970s due to his technical dexterity and speed on the guitar.Ā
Solo Career:Ā He released his debut album,Ā First Course, in 1976 and has since produced over 40 albums.
Session Work:Ā He has participated in more than 3,000 recording sessions for legendary artists, including Frank Sinatra, Pink Floyd, Steely Dan, B.B. King, and Aretha Franklin.
Collaborations:Ā Ritenour was a founding member of the jazz supergroupĀ FourplayĀ in 1991. He also maintains a long-standing partnership with pianistĀ Dave Grusin; their latest collaboration,Ā Brasil, was released in 2024.

His style is a "blend of jazz, fusion, bossa nova, and blues," heavily influenced by Wes Montgomery's octave technique.Ā
