How to Install LED Strip Lights Under Kitchen Cabinets That Aren't Connected
Facebook Caption:
Not all kitchen cabinets are connected—but that doesn't mean your under-cabinet lighting has to look uneven.
If your cabinets are separated by a window, range hood, or open shelving, you still have several clean installation options.
💡 Option 1: Separate LED Strip Kits Install an individual LED strip under each cabinet and connect each one to its own power source. This is the easiest solution for large gaps.
💡 Option 2: One Power Supply + Extension Cables Use a single LED driver with low-voltage extension cables hidden behind the wall, inside cabinets, or along the back. This keeps all lights synchronized while reducing the number of power adapters.
💡 Option 3: Smart Control System Add a door sensor, motion sensor, touch switch, or wireless controller so all cabinet lights operate together—even when they're installed separately.
Installation Tips
✅ Keep the color temperature and brightness consistent across all cabinets. ✅ Choose high-quality extension cables to reduce voltage drop on longer runs. ✅ Hide cables using cable channels or route them inside cabinets for a clean finish. ✅ Calculate the total wattage before selecting your LED power supply.
With the right layout, even cabinets separated by several feet can have seamless, professional-looking under-cabinet lighting.

12V vs. 24V vs. 220V for Cabinet LED Strips – Which One Should You Pick?
When it comes to lighting up cabinets, one question always comes up: 12V, 24V, or 220V?
If you're using our wardrobe lighting, you already know – we run on 12V. And here's why that's a great choice for most cabinet projects.
First, let's clear one thing up:
🔹 12V & 24V (Low Voltage) – Safe to touch, DIY-friendly, no electric shock risk. Requires a driver to convert mains power.
🔹 220V (High Voltage) – Direct mains connection. Higher shock risk. Professional installation required. Not recommended for ordinary cabinets.
For cabinets, low voltage is always the safer bet.
So why do we use 12V for our wardrobe lights?
Here's the honest breakdown:
12V Advantages:
✅ Widely available and affordable power supplies
✅ Perfect for short to medium runs (under 5 meters) – which covers most wardrobe and cabinet applications
✅ Safe to handle during installation – no electrician needed
✅ Compatible with most dimmers and controllers on the market
✅ Our entire product line is built around 12V – everything works together seamlessly
24V is great too, but it's more common for longer runs (over 5 meters) like large retail displays or commercial shelving. For ordinary home cabinets and wardrobes, 12V does the job perfectly.
220V? Skip it. Higher voltage means higher risk. And for a wardrobe, you really don't want mains voltage running through tight spaces with metal hinges and moving parts.
Bottom line for your cabinet project:
✅ 12V – Safe, reliable, and perfect for most wardrobes and cabinets. Plus, our lights are designed specifically for 12V systems, so you get consistent performance and easy installation.
✅ 24V – Better for long runs over 5 meters. Not necessary for standard home cabinets.
❌ 220V – Not worth the risk. Leave it for ceiling lights.
💡 Pro tip: Always use the correct power supply for your strip voltage. A 12V strip needs a 12V driver – no exceptions!

COB or SMD – Which LED Strip Should You Use for Kitchen Cabinets?
We get this question all the time: "Which LED strip has no visible light spots?" And if you've ever installed under-cabinet lighting, you know exactly what we're talking about – those tiny dots that ruin the whole clean look.
Here's the deal:
COB strips are the way to go if you want a completely seamless, dotless light. They pack tons of tiny chips tightly together and cover them with a gel layer, so what you see is one continuous line of light, not individual points. It looks clean, professional, and expensive – perfect for kitchens where the strip is visible.
SMD strips have individual chips with gaps in between. They're cheaper, but up close or at certain angles, you'll see the dots. If you put them in a frosted aluminum channel, the effect softens, but it never fully disappears.
When to choose which:
COB – under-cabinet lighting, glass cabinets, anywhere the strip is visible and you want a high-end look.
SMD – toe-kick lighting, above-cabinet accent lighting, or anywhere the strip is hidden from direct view.
And don't forget to check the CRI – for kitchens, 90 or above is a must for accurate color rendering.
Bottom line: If you hate those little light dots, go COB. It's worth the extra cost for the seamless finish. SMD is still a solid budget pick for hidden applications.

Stage Lights and Stories: How LED Strip Lighting Elevates the DJ Experience
Introduction A great DJ set tells a story—lighting gives that story a visual voice. LED strip lighting lets DJs and event creators shape mood, guide attention, and make moments feel cinematic. This lifestyle-focused piece explores creative uses of LED strip lighting to transform DJ booths, offers practical installation ideas, and shows how subtle visual choices deepen audience connection.
Why lighting matters for the vibe
Emotional cues. Color and motion set emotional tone: warm ambers feel intimate, cool blues calm, and rapid color chases raise excitement.
Memory triggers. Distinct visual looks help audiences remember nights and share photos and videos.
Performer identity. Lighting becomes part of a DJ’s persona—consistent palettes and signature effects reinforce a brand without words.
Creative ways to use LED strip lighting
Outline and silhouette. Mount strips along the booth’s front lip and top edge to create a clean silhouette that frames the DJ as the focal point.
Layered glow. Combine a soft under-table wash with brighter front-facing strips to create depth and avoid a flat appearance.
Backdrop accents. Use vertical or diagonal strips behind the DJ to compose dynamic backgrounds that change with the music.
Accent equipment. Trace turntables, mixers, and controllers with thin strips to highlight action during key moments.
Interactive edges. Place strips along railings or seating areas to subtly guide movement and safety while maintaining ambiance.
Designing color stories
Single-theme sets. Choose a dominant color family for a set—this creates cohesion and cinematic impact.
Palette transitions. Start with muted tones and gradually shift to brighter, more saturated colors as the set intensifies.
Beat-driven contrasts. Use contrasting hues during drops (e.g., cool to warm) to enhance the perceived punch of transitions.
White and pastels. Strips with a dedicated white channel produce cleaner whites for calmer moments or accent lighting.
Syncing lights to music (creatively)
Simple audio-reactive modes. Use controllers that pulse lights to beats for immediate crowd feedback during dance-friendly sections.
Manual choreography. Pre-program a few key scenes for set highlights and trigger them live for precise timing and dramatic effect.
Live improvisation. Keep a palette of colors and motion speeds handy and adjust on the fly to match the room’s mood—this keeps performances feeling spontaneous.
Practical installation ideas for different gigs
House parties and pop-ups. Use adhesive-backed strips and small controllers for fast setups. Battery-powered options are handy when outlets are scarce.
Club residencies. Install permanent strips behind and under booth edges with hidden wiring to keep the setup clean and reliable.
Outdoor events. Opt for weatherproof strips and protect controllers in sealed enclosures to withstand dew or light rain.
Mobile DJs. Create quick-detach mounting points and labeled connectors so strips can be installed and removed quickly between jobs.
Aesthetic tips for photographers and social sharing
Avoid direct glare toward camera angles—diffuse strips behind frosted channels for soft, photogenic light.
Time signature moments for photos: switch to vivid, slow-moving color patterns during key songs to capture striking images.
Use consistent color themes across events to make social posts instantly recognizable and build a visual library.
Durability and maintenance for long-term looks
Protect strips with profiles or channels to prevent peeling and to keep lighting even.
Keep controllers and power sources in dry, elevated enclosures away from spills and crowd traffic.
Replace segments cleanly using connector-friendly runs so repairs don’t disrupt the rest of the installation.
Safety and audience comfort
Avoid strobe-heavy patterns in general admission zones—be mindful of individuals sensitive to rapid flashing.
Keep wiring tidy and taped down; use cable ramps or channels in walking areas to prevent trips.
Use dimmers or adjustable brightness settings to prevent overpowering glare in small or reflective spaces.
Collaborating with venues and promoters
Share vision boards. Bring images or short videos of desired looks to align expectations with promoters and venue managers.
Discuss sightlines and restrictions. Venues may have safety rules or sightline concerns that affect strip placement.
Coordinate cues. Agree on moments in the set to trigger signature lighting effects so sound and visuals enhance each other.
Small investments, big returns
Signature look pays off. A distinctive lighting setup makes the DJ booth shareable and memorable, increasing social engagement and repeat bookings.
Consistency builds recognition. Reusing a color palette or effect across shows creates a visual signature that fans associate with the artist.
Conclusion LED strip lighting offers creative storytellers—a.k.a. DJs and event curators—a versatile, approachable way to shape the emotional arc of a set. From subtle highlights to dramatic color shifts, strips let you sculpt atmosphere, frame performances, and create images that live on in social feeds. Focus on sightlines, diffusion, and safe installation practices for the best audience experience. For reliable products and professional support, purchase LED strip lighting from trusted professional audio and lighting shops that understand live-event needs and can provide installation guidance. Choose reliable professional lighting stores like nearby ProX dealers when shopping for LED products.
