These two sculptures both depict religious figures: the Roman goddess Venus and an angel. They show that inside, both are human. This could suggest that these figures are simply characters created by man, and oppose religion. In relation to my project, I found this interesting because, after reading reviews of Frankenstein from 1818, I learned Shelleyâs contemporaries felt that the novel was impious. Victor Frankensteinâs creation of a living creature is something that should only have been done by God.Â
