Your gut's microbiome (diversity of bacteria) is key to your overall health. It's true that more than 70% of your immune system lines your gut, and about 90% of your serotonin (feel-good hormone) is produced by your gut bacteria. I will add that the integrity of your gut, will also determine how much of your nutrients are absorbed. If your gut lining is compromised, food makes it past your gut wall. This will activate your immune system (recall that most of your immune system lines your gut). This can turn into leaky gut, candida, or H. Pylori. If this goes unaddressed, your immune system works overtime and circulates pro-inflammatory cytokines for a long period of time, causing low-grade "chronic" inflammation. This means it will contribute to inflammation elsewhere in your body as well. (Note that skin conditions and joint pain are on the symptoms slide). The saying, "The gut is the root of your health," is not far from the truth.
Remember that antibiotics, poor sleep, and stress, do a lot of damage to the gut’s microbiome. Do your best to prioritize sleep and stress management, and only take antibiotics if absolutely necessary. If you do, increase your probiotics for some time after. And MOVE YOUR BODY!
