While I dislike HMs as much as everyone else, I think that they were at their best in gen 5 where they were mainly used for exploration without having much impact on the main story itself

You must be joking... Clair thinks to herself incredulously, seated on the rooftop of the Goldenrod City Department Store. She’s being forced to shop for herself, stuck on another “mandatory vacation” from training (In Clair’s opinion, her colleagues worry too much about “work-life balance”). Presently, the Blackthorn Gym Leader can’t believe her eyes--someone has actually built a winding slide all the way from the rooftop to the ground floor of the six-story store. “Tired of waiting for the slooow elevator? Take our Department Store Slide for a ride, surely safe and free of charge!” a pitchman barks to a mostly-nervous rooftop audience. Clair can’t tear her dumbfounded gaze away.

So that looks dangerous... Want to try it? 

An unfamiliar voice snaps Clair back to reality, and she notices a young woman following her stare towards that...contraption. The Tamer is about to say not a chance outright, only to have Whitney and Falkner’s voices echo in her ear: lighten up, Clair! She sighs.

Ditches invisibility to reveal herself to a special someone. “A ‘qt’, huh?”
