It's acknowledged that Leaf still talks about Wren in the present tense after thinking she's been dead for A YEAR. He can hardly go a page without thinking about her....

It's Dragonslayer time, and I'm at chapter 2 which means.........

Leaf apparently tried to keep a pet kitten once, which is also mentioned to be to scale with humans even though that doesn't make sense. But now that I'm thinking about it, I remembered that I like to imagine Dragon (the cat) as being HUGE, like, bigger than a horse huge.
So now, I have the mental image of Leaf and Wren begging their (shitty) parents to let them keep a saint bernard sized kitten 👍
I love how Dragonslayer recontextualizes the little scene where Clay saves that scavenger. Something about how it's the first time Leaf experiences any kindness from dragons, and it's through Clay
Clay became the exact opposite of what he was raised to be in this moment, and he doesn't even realize it. He had no reason to do it, in his mind Leaf's just an animal, but he still helps him
The one who was raised thinking he's a monster unknowingly lets this kid who has sworn himself to hate dragons see that they might not all be bloodthirsty monsters after all, and I think that's beautiful
