laxus x reader but reader is a spirit (not celestial) that goes to laxus for comfort 💗
shadows had been morphing around the blonde for days, little flickers of darkness swiveling around in his vision. he felt maybe he was going insane, perhaps he had been hit on the head by a vulcan one too many times.
but seeing those little flickers of darkness was nothing in comparison to FEELING them, to be grabbed and touched by the shadows - or maybe one singular shadow - was a different story.
and once he started hearing the whispers, it was done. laxus was convinced he had lost his mind, late at night, as he attempted to doze off into his slumber, he would hear faint little murmurs. the voice was soft, with a dreary sadness to it, a desperate yearning sound. yearning to be helped, to be comforted, maybe even a yearning to be loved.
so imagine laxus’s shock when he started seeing faces, or not faces - a singular face. her face. he hadn’t seen it before, and he convinced himself it was his imagination, but he saw it everywhere. in his dreams, in the shadows, in the steam, in the smoke, in the flames, even in his own lighting - he saw her face. she was pretty, with a desperate sadness in her eyes. when he’d stopped being scared, and he focused on parts of the darkness of his room, he would see her. sometimes only for a few seconds, sometimes he would watch her weep.
rather guiltily he would admit he liked hearing her cry, it was soothing for him, it helped him sleep at times.
on the contrary, it was absolutely terrifying for him when she wasn’t crying, because she would stand, and she would stare. she would stare at the boy in his bed, seeing beyond his physical body and understanding his soul. she saw him beyond what he was, how he acted and who he pretended to be. she saw him rawly, she saw him for what he was - from the beauty of his love, to the violence in his lust. she saw his pain, his suffering, his need. over time, she began to more clearly follow him around, learning about his guild, staying just a shadow.
eventually however, on a particularly dreary hallows eve, as laxus was listening to her cries to fall asleep, she moved. she took slow, small steps towards his bed, and oddly enough, he wasn’t scared. when she sat down next to him, touching his hair, he didn’t flinch away.
her beautiful, sad eyes met his but he didn’t speak.
he found comfort in her touch, letting her stay by him, until he fell asleep and woke up with her gone again.
at that point, he was convinced he was losing it. maybe he was just lonely, maybe he just wanted a girlfriend?
and so he tried that, he found a girl, and invited her into his house.
now imagine his shock when he and the girl took their business into his bedroom, and the spirit he had been interacting with was already seated on his bed, but she looked different this time.
a pool of blood was collecting at her feet - the source of the blood you ask? from the gaping hole in her chest. it appeared as if she had carved her own heart out and held it in her hands, the devastating sadness still apparent in her eyes.
and imagine how much more shocked laxus was when the girl next to him screamed in fear, running out of his home. she could see her too?
laxus watched her and had no idea what to do, his mouth agape as she stood, her wounds healing and the heart transforming into an apple. she took slow steps toward him, as she turned back into the beautiful apparition he saw every night, and she handed him the apple, with a soft smile on her face.
“please.. don’t do that again..” she spoke in barely a whisper, as she walked through the man frozen in fear, disappearing.
she didn’t appear to him for a week after that, and he was plagued with nightmares for a week.
at that point, he didn’t know what to do. should he tell the master about it? or would the old geezer put him in some ward?
the spirit continued to visit him, progressively becoming realer, getting touchier and even speaking to him.
it became a routine, every night, she would find refuge in his arms, telling him about her day. he didn’t quite understand exactly what she was yet, but it was ok.
