it's so fucking crazy that just like ophelia, licht is someone with a strong sense of ideals and that's clearly what appeals him to lawless
BUT UNLIKE OPHELIA he doesn't consider martyrdom as a proper path to take to realize those ideals because! gasp! as a child he was on the side of the one who got left behind! he lost nicco and was on the side who grieved! just like lawless!
and thanks to knowing what it means to have lost someone that he can meet lawless as equal! and helps lawless grieve ophelia's death properly instead of convincing himself that her death never mattered because nothing in life matters
and it's kinda funny to think about how the "death" of a loved one is what pushed licht into becoming the best version of himself while lawless went on a meeting where people decided to kill the person he looked up to as a parental figure and then when he came back to ophelia's country it was already destroyed so ofc he kept losing and losing with no reprieve before he could ever figure out what he stood for so of course he ends up standing for nothing
