Basically anything that denies the existence of spirits, deities, demons and angels is problematic for me, as it goes against my own experience. Usually people talk about beliefs and convictions all sorts of ways, but there are others (myself included) that have enough evidence and all sorts of proof that such an ambivalent attitude (or atheistic) cannot be permitted. Since LaVeyans refute the actual existence of Satan, I cannot accept their views since my own experience goes against that. Some of their viewpoints with regards to spirits, minority groups etc also go against my own beliefs. With regards to the Satanic Temple, they likewise are against the existence of an actual Satan, but they also don't believe in Magick. They may be more trendy and modern, but I cannot overlook these major flaws. In my opinion, anything and anyone disregarding the spirits and deities (or disrespecting them) is of no consequence to any serious spiritual Path. There are others that are more esoteric in their approach, including the Temple of Set, Dragon Rouge, and several other occult groups of the left hand path.

That kind of mentality is extremely disgusting and not only gatekeeping the beliefs of many, but also being complete dicks. The worst part is, you know you're being dicks about it and dont give a shit. Why are yall so hellbent on trying to gatekeep something? Why is it so wrong for people to have another form of Satanism than you? Anton LaVey is dead, he doesnt 'own' satanism. Satanism doesnt need to be just Atheistic. All forms, Theistic and Atheistic, of Satanism are in fact Satanism. I do not give a shit if 'Anton LaVey came up with the term'. Not all of us follow LaVey or his teachings. Satanism does NOT need to be atheistic for it to be Satanism.

laveyan satanism -- an organization which advocates for division between church and state, freedom from religion, and is against religious extremism. sometimes atheistic, sometimes worships mankind as gods.

if you take a look through the church of satan’s twitter, you’ll probably come across their claims that “theistic satanism is an oxymoron”. 

every day, i see laveyans claim that “devil worshipers” (who i will be calling satanists from now on in this post for simplicity’s sake, though not all people who worship the devil are referred to as satanists -- and laveyan satanists will be referred to as “laveyans”) are inherently evil or are morally corrupt. they believe that we support abuse and violence. this is absolutely not the case.

ask any satanist, and they will tell you: we do NOT support harm to others.

personally, i’ve found that a great number of laveyans are very hypocritical. one of their main goals is to call out christians and other religious people’s conceit. however, when i come across a laveyan, nine times out of ten, they are just as disrespectful to religious people as the people they supposedly oppose. 

this isn’t to say that all laveyans are bad people. i’m simply attempting to call out the hypocrisy in their actions. 

they also like to claim that satanism inherently implies laveyan satanism. this, in my opinion, is extremely disrespectful to theistic satanists. it is the erasure of a religion. 

things satanists are:

followers of satan/lucifer

things satanists are not:

christians (christian as a term implies the worship of yahweh, and while some satanists believe in yahweh, we are very obviously against his teachings and reject the term christian for this reason)

abusers (satan/lucifer does not support the harm of human beings, and we do not need to be told not to hurt people. we have our own moral compasses)

immoral (as i said before, the reason many satanists worship satan/lucifer is because we disagree with the morality of yahweh. we are just as moral as anyone else)

animal killers (we don’t sacrifice live animals. thanks)

i would be very happy to answer any questions, and if i said anything incorrect or i wasn’t able to articulate my point, feel free to ask about it because i probably made a couple mistakes.
