My favourite thing about HTGAWM is that the gang will literally be in the middle of a police precinct or a courthouse and they will be talking OUT LOUD about the murder they committed. Besties that is NOT how you get away with murder

TOP 5/10 CHARACTERS PER SHOW (as voted by my followers) ↳ how to get away with murder edition #5. Laurel Castillo portrayed by Karla Souza
it's kind of making me crazy that in episode 1 Frank says all this shit to Laurel about how he sees a lot of students like her, these idealistic girls who come to law school to change the world and then end up working some corporate job, but not for long because they get pregnant and want to stay home for the baby. and then by season 5 Laurel has completely vanished from the plot and her entire character has become Motherhood. idk exactly what I think of this but it's Certainly Something

Asher: Wait, are you banging that dude? Laurel: No. Michaela: Banging him is fine. Doing other things is not.
HOW TO GET AWAY WITH MURDER (2014 - 2020)
one of the top 5 most disrespectful moments in tv history was when how to get away with murder randomly killed wes after several seasons of hyping up his backstory with his mafia dad + epic weslaurel bury the body justice obstruction best friends to bath sex arc + out of wedlock afrolatino grad school baby
I need to talk about this, but clearly... apart from Connor & Oliver, all the true romances in HTGAWM are tragic.
I'll be clear.
Frank loved Laurel more than Bonnie. Bonnie loved Annalise more than Frank. Laurel loved Frank more than Wes (let's be real, she cheated on Wes with Frank). Wes loved Rebecca more than Laurel. Annalise loved Bonnie more than Eve. Etc.
Laurel rejected Frank out of morality, as she couldn't accept his actions. She went with Wes because he provided her with security and stability in a chaotic world (and it's not a bad think at all). Her delusions of great love for Wes (after only some weeks) were simply an expression of her immense guilt towards him after his death.
Wes, on the other hand, was essentially romantically interested in Laurel when she showed him a lost and distressed side (like Rebecca when you think about it), because before there was no real romantic indication / tension between them, more of a brotherly one in my humble opinion. From my memories, Wes even have a girlfriend when the first kiss with Laurel happen ?
Not to mention the whole traumatic experience aspect that linked them too (as much on Wes's side as on Laurel's).
It's like people who start romantic relationships with each other, not because they love each other, but because they've experienced a shared trauma together. As a way to cope with the trauma. Just as this kind of experience can give rise to real romances, it can also simply give rise to a kind of relationship designed to cope with trauma unconsciously.
And since Laurel was more connected to Wes, and Wes to Laurel, in their group with Connor Asher and Michaela it made sense that it was with each other that such a relationship could occur.
Frank & Bonnie got together mainly because they didn't want to be alone and were rejected by those they truly loved. Laurel for Frank. And Annalise for Bonnie.
I also think it's very clear that the strongest romantic relationship Wes had was with Rebecca, and the reason he was essentially in a relationship after that was because she was dead / gone.
As for Annalise, she clearly reciprocated Bonnie's feelings, but rejected them out of fear and anger. They both struggle with expressing their love due to past trauma and negative experiences, especially Annalise, who has always struggled to fully give herself to the people she loves.
Literally then, all the real romances in this show ; Wes & Rebecca, Laurel & Frank, Bonnie & Annalise are tragic, because they ended up separated by more or less external forces.
Luckily my favorite OTP has always been Connor & Oliver in this show. For one of the rare times where the gay couple is the only one who makes it ! 😂
Although I should point out that I still liked Bonnie & Frank, and Annalise & Eve. On the other hand, Wes & Laurel... No. Never. Probably one of the most crappy couples I've ever seen in my life. 0 chemistry.
