Harry strolled up to the desk labeled Returns and gave a casual wave to the librarian stationed behind it.

“Hey Angie,” he grinned, dropping the book on the counter. “I’m so sorry, I know this is already overdue, but I was hoping I could renew it?”

“Sorry, Harry,” she replied, leafing through the pages. “It’s a new order, got loads of people waiting to read it.”

“Right, of course, I understand, I really should just buy my own copy,” he grimaced, scratching at his neck.

She let out a chuckle, shaking her head as she scanned the book back into the system.

“Harry, you say that every time you return a book. I’d tell you to just buy the damn book from the start, but you’re practically funding this whole library with your late fees, so maybe I should keep my mouth shut,” she winked.

“Er…right,” he nodded sheepishly.

She laughed knowingly, then glanced over Harry’s shoulder, craning her neck towards the direction of some tables.

“Oi!” she whistled sharply, waving the book in the air, before turning her attention back to Harry. “Anyways, maybe I should send this bloke your way—he’s been hounding me all week to see if this book was ready yet—been checking out all the same types of book you like to snag, actually.”

He turned to look over his shoulder and blanched, mouth gaping in horror as all too familiar grey eyes locked onto his, the man behind him freezing midstep.
