what’s your favorite food from wherever your family’s from?
okay so im like 24% great britain, 34% polish, 40% ashkenazi jewish, and 2% assorted european and probably a little bit of other stuff from like trade routes
so i guess we're gonna go with the ashkenazi inheritance, because british food is boring and i dont really like polish food.
so ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm very basic answer but potato latkes ❤️
basically you take potato, shred it, add like a lil bit of onion and garlic for flavour and eggs for binding, and then you fry them.
they make your whole house and all your clothes smell like frying oil for weeks but its so worth it and theyre so good. you usually eat them with either apple sauce (homemade, preferrably) or sour cream (or both) on top, but i dont really like sour cream.
they are delicious and not associated with any holiday in particular but i usually have them during pesach.
We had these tiny little rosti with tuna and compressed watermelon when we were in New Orleans a little over a month ago, so I’m playing with that concept for some of our brunches. Smoked salmon was on sale, so we made some compressed watermelon and paired it with the smoked salmon along with some creme fraiche and whitefish caviar, and it has definite possibilities but I need to get better with making my various potato cakes so that’s going to be on my to-do list for the rest of the year.

I made latkes today as part of my spread for footy watching, and I just have to say, if you're only enjoying latkes during khanike, you're doing yourself a disservice. They're one of my go-to game-day, family coming over, snacky additions to a spread, and they're always so popular an option that I never end up with leftovers.
And now I'm off to do tarot readings during halftime, because this is just the type of entertainment my friends and family expect.
