Five-piece Late Night Drives found themselves forming when old school friends Daniel and Ben reconnected and conversed on their desires to be in a band. From there on, Ben’s old bandmates and Daniel fell right into place, ready to take the alternative-rock genre by storm. Taking influence from Kings of Leon, Kaiser Chiefs and Liam Gallagher, Late Night Drives are certainly ready to follow in the footsteps of the greats and with their newest single ‘Wait For Me’, we can only imagine things will continue to go up from here.

‘Wait For Me’ pertains such a large and vibrant sound even from the opening moments, allowing you to become entangled within the whirlwind of thudding drum beats, a smokey but steady bassline and electric guitar plucks and strums ringing out to create a real vastness in sound. Their evolution is perhaps one of the most enthralling parts of the single, as a smoothly performed electric guitar solo graces the bridge, alongside every moment of tenderness formed by the gentle strums leading up to it. Whilst broad and unapologetically impressive, ‘Wait For Me’ manages to make each and every instrumental stand out on its own accord, leaving a real stripped feel to the soundscape that pertains such a gigantic impression whilst keeping you close and heartfelt too. To top it all off, Daniel’s leading vocal performance demonstrates real control as he explores multitudes of ranges with ease, with each note sung absolutely dripping with candid emotion and a rawness that cannot be captured by being anything other than utterly authentic. Such a powerful song like this is destined to fill arenas with such vocal reverberation and anthemic instrumentals, and given it’s the groups debut single, we can only imagine the potential they have in the years to come.

With such a large sound to fill, Late Night Drives had to have a story to match that greatness - and they’ve more than provided. ‘Wait For Me’ so eloquently explores wanting to be with someone, but certain circumstances won’t allow you to pursue it. Although never explicitly told, the narrative could range from a long distance romance that sees you asking for them to wait for you, or that of a romance disallowed by families but one day destined to flourish. As it’s mostly left up to the imagination, we found that one of the best parts of ‘Wait For Me’ is how it allows you to form your own opinions on their lyricism, leaving you to pen your own romances to their heartfelt lyricism for some comfort and universal relatability for anyone and everyone. Many lines like ‘In the light of the night I see a silhouette of her’ picture the longing and loneliness behind this not-so-perfect romance, in fact painting a true light on the difficulties of being kept away from a lover in comparison to the general romanticisation behind the emotional videos of couples reuniting. If the gorgeous storytelling in ‘Wait For Me’ is anything to go by, this debut single certainly sets the stage for further releases that see such an importance placed upon the narratives told and so intricately pieced to perfection.
