Although I previously noted that Last Order is generally considered non-canon, Naoki Hamaguchi stated in a recent interview that the development team does not deny the canonicity of the endings of any title in the Final Fantasy VII Compilation. I doubt this means that Last Order has been restored to canon until the matter is addressed directly, but I believe it's worth mentioning.
