Lascaux Cave, Montignac, Dordogne region, France,
Lascaux Cave is famous for its exceptionally well-preserved Palaeolithic paintings.
The cave, discovered in 1940, features over 600 painted and drawn figures, primarily animals like horses, deer, and bison, as well as nearly 1,500 engravings.
The paintings, dating back to around 17,000 to 15,000 BCE, are considered some of the finest examples of prehistoric art.
I know you.

a little celebratory sketch for my little Make 100 kickstarter project reaching its funding goal yesterday!!!!
I'm making 100 custom lucky clay charms of Przewalski's horses/takhi, to celebrate the upcoming Lunar New Year of the Fire Horse and start a conversation about conservation :)
If you would like to get a little custom hand-made lucky horse charm or a print, consider backing my kickstarter below! I yap a lot about cave paintings, takhi, and chinese puns.
Any additional horses that get made from the funds raised I'll be selling after the campaign's finished, with 50% of those profits donated to the International Takhi Group for their continued work on takhi conservation, and supporting Mongolian steppe communities!
Celebrate the Year of the Horse with your own unique lucky takhi clay charm, and start a conversation about conservation!

Did I ever post the finished Lascaux (& etc) horses here?!
This first batch of them will be available in my next shop update, but there are more getting bisque-fired tomorrow that should be going into the shop in mid-April alongside a couple more cave painting mugs :)
sold
seven Lascaux deer pendants
Today we visited the two Lascaux replicas, words can’t do them justice! 🥹😭 Both were amazing in their own way: the older one felt intimate and sits right by the original cave, while the newer one is stunningly precise thanks to modern scanning. The photos are from the smaller exhibits afterwards.
Afterwards we also visited the National Museum of Prehistory. We've been wanting to see that bison carving 🥹 the artistry is just incredible..
