I look long before the leap

Gotta play for keeps

Because a memory is prized

In yesterday’s appetite

Existing only in spite of the forgetfulness that surrounds it

But in the moment

I’m keeping the torch lit

I’m harmonized with the forces

I got dangerous close friends

And we all strive to be ageless

Making good sense contagious

& leaving sorrow forsaken

We’re accepting of self

And that’s a truth that is only felt

Because secrets never tell

Check the wisdom:

Reveling in instance

And full of emptiness

I know the value of ignorance

And the cry of the innocent

They called it “strange fruit”

A noose meant to replace roots

That’s a tight squeeze for some juice

A truth present in my dreams

& listening close to esteem

I unravel the scheme

The jewels from my youth

I won’t pawn, I’ll find their use

And like John Henry with a sledgehammer

I’ll walk, and lay the path of these roots.
