okay I'm going to talk into the void here because I saw some posts about it and was curious
Disclaimer: I will be using my elementary AT BEST mandarin skills to break this down. Please anyone with and ACTUAL UNDERSTANDING OF THE LANGUAGE feel free to hop on/correct any mistakes
So the white-ish snake has so far had multiple English translations of its name. The actual name is 小醋 (xiăo cù) which translated directly is little vinegar. 醋 (cù) means vinegar and can also mean jealousy, particularly in regards to love. This explains the translation of the name as little jealousy or little green-eyed monster
Here's where I'm stuck. @scarefox has in the tags of this post questioning the name 二宝 (èr băo). The general meaning here is second child, but I can't remember if suo wei would know the seniority of the snake? Or if that's just an assumption and he chose the 二 (èr) arbitrarily. If anyone has better insight on this part, please let me know!

I’ve studied two Romance languages who are very tightly related to Italian, yet I do not know Italian. Thus I now know what it’d feel like to suddenly forget a language you once knew
I have a question to smart people that talk chinese/are chinese/know about things.
I'm trying to write a fanfic, and am doing quite a bit of reaserch, but i've stumbled upon a problem i can't find an answer to.
Mainly
Jiefu is a husband of elder sister
Saozi/saosao is a wife of elder brother
How would one name a husband of elder brother or a wife of elder sister? I know there isn't a legit answer to it propably, but would it be absolutely heinous if i said that elder brother's husband is gefu? And elder sister's wife jiezi, or jiesao? Or am i gonna be cursed by world for saying things like that?
And the same with younger sister's wife - wife of younger brother is dixi/dixifu/difu and husband of younger sister is meifu. Can i say that younger sister's wife is meixi? Or since the 'fu' is already in wife of younger brother can meifu be treated as younger sister's wife?
Bc i really don't want to have to choose a 'wife' and a 'husband' in the same sex relationship.
And for the less important question - how would one reffer to father's second wife, when the first one is your mother and still alive? Do we treat her as a stepmother then? And if you refer to a man's first and second wife would it be dafuren and erfuren?
