song #4 (July 11, 2026)
We all know “Landslide” by Fleetwood Mac. It’s a classic, written by Stevie Nicks while she was in the white, snowy mountains of Aspen. Only 3 months before she joined the famous music group, she was thinking about her future. Contemplating her choices, and unsure of what to do next. It’s a testament to not only grief within yourself, but how hard it is to feel comfortable with the unknown.
Growing up, my mother was a huge fan of The Chicks. We had every CD in our car, with one always in the player. The Chicks version of this beloved song reminds me of a warm hug. As if someone is holding me, reassuring me that we’ve all been there and it’ll be okay. This specific version is very special to my family. When it plays we always cry for different reasons. I think my mom cried because she sees her children all growing up, and she’s not sure if she’s ready to stop it or ready to set us free.
Yesterday, my mom gave a speech at my sisters wedding. It was heartfelt, raw, and evoked a lot of emotion from the crowd. She’s always been really good with words that move a big group. She definitely made my sister feel special, deservedly so. After her tearjerker of a speech, “Landslide” by The Chicks immediately stated to play following the applause. I’m not a public crier, but with the speech and this act of God, I could be caught fixing my eye makeup a few moments later. This song makes me so emotional based on the connection it has to my family and how you can be in any situation in life and need to hear those beautiful lyrics.
Congratulations to my sister!
