(I know I asked for asks, but now that I have one it’s like I forgot how to answer questions 😂)
So here we go, let’s hope I do this right:
- since Lance is part of a huge family he has always had to fight for attention. He loves his family, of course, but that only made it worse. He couldn’t help but think that all of his siblings were so amazing at everything and that he wasn’t
- being part of team Voltron helped and hurt his self esteem. He got really good at shooting and he knew it, but he couldn’t help but feel like the rest of the team was so much better and that their skills were so much more useful.
- he cried himself to sleep many a times on the castle ship, feeling like he couldn’t bug the others with his problems. They were already in a war after all.
- Lance likes to use his skin care routine as a release when he’s upset. Him and his siblings used to do it all the time at home, especially if one of them was having a hard time.
- (edit, cuz I just thought of a really good one to add) Lance knows how terrible it feels to feel bad about yourself, so whenever one of his teammates are doubting themselves, he does whatever he can to cheer them up. (But he hates to accept the same treatment when he’s feeling down)
And since I had to add in some Klance:
-Keith has a lot of his own insecurities stemming from his abandonment issues, making him one of the only ones who notices when Lance is having troubles. Pidge and Hunk notice when Lance is really upset, but Lance is a good actor. Keith is one of the only ones who can see past his mask of overconfidence.
- when they get together, Lance forces Keith to do face masks with him. And Keith agrees of course because he’ll do anything to make lance happy.
As a kid, Lance needed a way to let out energy and so his mom signed him up for every sport imaginable. Lance did fine, he wasn't terrible, but none of them really stuck. That was until his mom signed him up for basketball. Lance fell in love. You think his aim is accurate with shooting? Just wait until you see how far he can make a shot. During gym class everyone wanted him on their team. He could shoot a ball from across the room and still make it in. As he got older and got taller, he was told he had the perfect body for the sport. If he hadn't gotten into the Garrison, Lance probably could've gotten into a college on a full scholarship. He never really told anyone in the Garrison; mostly because there wasn't much time or use in basketball. After the team is in space and they have some free time, Allura mentions the castle has a gym and describes a game that surprisingly sounds a lot like basketball. Lance practically jumps at the chance. The teams are split up with Hunk, Lance, and Pidge on one team, Shiro, Keith, and Allura on the other. Hunk and Pidge complain that the team's weren't evenly split up, knowing full well the other couldn't aim for shit, but Lance was surprisingly quiet. Everyone thinks it'll be a quick game. And they were right.
I recently saw your trans!lance au and I'm non-binary, and one of the ways that first clued me into not being cis was I was looking forward to getting breasts, but once I did I was so uncomfortable with them and wanted them gone. Maybe that could be how Lance maybe figures out something is different.

Then during gym when he’d be forced to change in front of other girls, he had to get special permission to change on his own because he kept feeling like he would have a panic attack.Sex ed was the worst, because he thought at least THERE they could give him some answers but it only made him more confused.The first time that he really realized something was so off was when he realized that he would be socially expected to hang out with girls. I mean don’t get him wrong, even after he came out, Lance still hung out with plenty of girls. The problem was how differently the guys and girls treated each other. Boys would pick on the girls and hang out after school whenever they wanted. Girls would gossip and play dumb around crushes. The entire thing felt so wrong to Lance because why couldn’t everyone just chill together like in fifth grade?After a while, Lance really dreaded going to school because the entire time he felt so anxious and uncomfortable all the time for seemingly no reason and he started to believe there was something wrong with him.Finally one day when he was watching YouTube videos (probably avoiding homework) when he came across a Q&A video (I’d like to believe it was someone like Miles McKenna). Lance was confused at first but then he googled the term transgender and it all just sort of clicked. That’s when he knew.
