I just feel like ranting so here’s what I’m thinking about Smallville thus far (I’m like three episodes out from finishing S3):
Also I’ll rank them in different areas so far
Lana-glad she intends to get away from Smallville and Clark, she’s always wanted more agency and I think it’s a good decision for her character. I feel like the being forced into being a damsel creates resentment, and her being selfless repeatedly, there’s bound to be some sort of fallout. Also, bit far back, but I was expecting Clark (maybe?) flying to the truck and getting her out during the tornado to be addressed again. I do think she’d be safe for Clark to tell his secret to potentially, but the fact that resentment has already been brewing makes it more difficult. I feel like a few season ago, regardless of how they were doing in a relationship, she would have stayed loyal, and she might still, but a person can only be pushed so far
How much I just like her like a person: 7/10
How much I think her character adds: fluctuates, but earlier it was more like an 8, now it’s more like a 6 imo, she had more going on
Intrigue for later: 9/10 (hope she’s not written off)
Chloe-sometimes pmo because she can’t make up her mind about Clark. Really, Lana and Clark also have this problem. But I get her always searching for the truth and I think that can provide a sense of control. Definitely has potential to be evil but I don’t think it would be sustained—she’s just reactive and emotional in certain ways. Not the worst thing to be, but she already went to Lionel. Not fully judging, but if I was Clark I would not feel good about being around her simply because if he tells her she may use it against him if things go wrong between them, but if she finds out on her own she may resent him and there’s just no good options. If I didn’t have secrets I think she’d be a good friend to have 😭 But honestly I think sometimes she’s in the right to be mad because Clark sort of uses her, though probably not meaning to. So worried about her getting tangled up with Lionel, fear for her life now that he knows she knows about him killing his parents
Like as a person: 5/10 just couldn’t be comfy around her, too nosy because I’m a very private person, but searching for the truth is admirable
Character addition: lowkey is just used as a plot device for info at times, but she has her own drama as well and the stuff with Lionel adds to it, used to be a 5ish, now is more like an 8/10
Intrigue: for the plot with the Luthors, 10/10. For Clark.. 7/10, I think she needs time away from him but also I find the fact that she didn’t tell people about him in Metropolis so compelling? Maybe she is trustworthy? I’m very back and forth about her. With Pete, 7/10. I think they could expand each other, but there’s less explicit history
Lex- really really interesting backstory so far, great acting especially in the asylum episode. I am 100% convinced him being evil later could have been prevented and it kills me, but at the same time his capacity for evil is shown at the very beginning. The episode with the blind lady that can see the future set things up well too. In general I just love how trippy things are because you think he must be sane and rational but slowly our confidence erodes (or mine did). The desperation/survival instinct, the part of him that wanted to kill his dad, versus the human part that wants to be loved.. I hope to be more articulate about this later, but I’d need a fully analysis. Anyway. Love his scenes with Lionel and Clark
Interest as a person: 9/10. I think he’d be fun to talk to if he’s not after you, knows about a significant bit of media, I like somebody knowledgeable. But also he’s horrible at times. So I’d rather just observe from a distance? Maybe a 6 as he delves into the worst bits of himself, but I haven’t gotten very far so he hasn’t been that bad yet, or at least a full villain
Character addition: 10/10. I feel like this is just self explanatory. He carries the b plot with Lionel, and his interactions with other characters always seem to build on his character AND theirs, besides Johnathan which can be more repetitive
Intrigue: 10/10. I want to see his full backstory, haven’t finished the episode where he’s seen in the past with the blanket he thinks is his brother yet
Pete-very glad he’s been fleshed out some as feeling like he’s in Clark’s shadow. But for him being the first friend to know, I expected him to have more time on screen. He may have been sacrificed a bit in character, made too impulsive in the car episode, but it did serve to show how far Clark is willing to go for a friend. I’ve appreciated his perspective on the Luthors and his resentment, but I want him to have more actual scenes with them. Maybe it’s better that it’s a minor thing, but I feel like his character hasn’t been fully utilized. His crush on Chloe is interesting, I think they’d make some sense together later on. I like him
Interest as a person: 10/10. Feel like he’d be the most normal for me to talk to. He’s a mostly good friend, we could probably get along. I think he could be a bit blander in comparison to the others, but bland is probably good in my life
Adds as a character: has lots of potential but often isn’t a central focus, so based on the show 4/10, but my intrigue is higher
Intrigue: 8/10. There’s just a lot to explore with him, as mentioned above
