How an 18 Day Barista Course Actually Changed My Job Search in Kathmandu
ok so a few months back i randomly signed up for an 18 day barista course and i honestly did not expect it to do anything for me
finished +2, had zero plan, everyone around me was either studying for ielts or just sitting at home scrolling. i did not want to be that person for a whole year
my friend told me about this course at united technical school in kumaripati and i said no way that sounds boring. she sent me a few reels about it and i got curious ngl, cafes are popping up everywhere in lalitpur and kathmandu right now
so i went for it
day two we were already on the machine, no long lecture phase, just straight into pulling shots. trainer kept saying pressure and timing matter more than the beans do, which sounded dramatic until i actually messed up a shot and tasted how bad it was
learned the boring stuff too, bean origins, roast levels, grind size, why it all changes the taste. then milk steaming which is way harder than it looks lol. my first latte art attempt looked like a blob, not a heart, not a leaf, just a blob
by week two it actually started looking like something
nobody made you feel dumb for messing up either, you just kept trying till your hand got it
end of the course we were taking real orders, juggling multiple drinks, cleaning and maintaining the machine ourselves. that machine care part is what i think actually matters if you want a real job after, not just the fun latte art stuff
uts also does placement support, over a thousand students placed so far apparently, and a couple people from my batch already had interviews lined up right after. one girl from an earlier batch, subekshya, said the training gave her more confidence than the actual certificate did. i get that now, you stop guessing once you know the machine
price wise the 18 day one was cheaper than the full month and still covered enough to actually apply for junior barista jobs after
if you just finished see or +2 and have no plan rn, honestly just look into it, you do not need to be obsessed with coffee first, i wasnt either
