Something that pisses me off to no end about studying Norse mythology is that the LĂŚvateinn problem is not a paradox. There is absolutely 100% a way to get LĂŚvateinn and Iâm extremely pissed off that nobodyâs thought of it yet.

Kamen Rider Fenrir - Chapter 44
Reine flinched as the wall behind her exploded, blinding her with dust. She fired her gun back, but makeshift barricades of furniture and sandbags obstructed her bolts.
This resistance shattered, however, when a thrown tank blew apart their pathetic attempt at a defense. Few survived the tank rolling over them, the survivors fleeing as they carried away the wounded. Their feeble returning laser bolts had little effect against the terrifying giantâs armor.
âYeah! Flee, you worthless ants!â But the army had put up a tougher defense than theyâd expected. Besides her formidable artillery, theyâd plundered the prototype energy weapons from Ymirâs testing labs.
âAre you okay?â Surtur asked.
âIâll survive.â Reine winced as she limped forward. Unlike her ally, she wasnât so impervious. Sheâd taken quite the beating in their assault, her energy system running on vapors.
âWe canât keep going like this. Even the mighty Surtur canât last forever!â And theyâd barely entered the car garage. Who knew what other annoying obstacles awaited them? âCanât you use those super-zombie nanomachines or something? Itâd make a great test run!â
âAn excellent suggestion, Reine.â Surturâs eyes scanned their surroundings before settling on a half-charred corpse from the destroyed tank. âHand me your Rangadriver. I can improve its specifications.â
After a momentâs reluctance, Reine did as instructed. A needle popped out from the gauntlet on the titanâs wrist and jabbed into a port in her device. The eyes of his helmet flashed red before returning to normal.
âTry it now,â Surtur said, returning her Rangadriver.
âOkay.â She pointed her gun at a dead manâs neck and fired. For several moments, nothing happened. Then an arm twitched, and Reine watched with bated breath as the creature rose. Its movements were twitchy as it leaped to its feet, the face contorting as it stood. Its features stretched, and bone cracked as the changes forced themselves on the body.
âIâm ready to serve you, master,â the creature said with a growl as his teeth extended into multiple rows of serrated fangs. Bone cracked further as the rubbery, burned face stretched forward. His fingers extended far past their usual limits. Palish scales grew across gnarled muscles as his chest expanded three times its normal size. A fin of bone protruded from his back as he slumped forward. Black pools stared back at them as his transformation completed.
âWell, thatâs something.â Reine fought the urge to vomit. But the results impressed herâa major upgrade to her capabilities.
âGo forward and kill everything in sight,â Reine told the shark-human monster. With more corpses, she could further experiment with her new trick. Their victimsâ screams were music to her ears, running in terror as her creation pounced.
âWe still have a way to go. Our target is on the 39th floor. I suspect the army has already disabled the elevators. Weâll need to climb the stairs.â
âFigures.â Still, Reine looked forward to Dinoâs priceless expression of terror when he met her nasty surprise. âYou better carry me. I canât climb a single floor with this leg.â
///
âI donât like this,â Johan said. Dead silence greeted them as they approached. The place seemed like a graveyard, silent as the grave.
âHeâs been here.â Dino pointed toward the torn remains of a garage door.
âCome on.â While Johan wanted to charge in and tear Surturâs head off, they approached with caution. After seeing the coast was clear, Dino waved him in.
Besides a flaming tank, nothing greeted them as they entered. The place seemed deserted, and the deafening quiet heightened their unease. They passed an empty checkpoint, ducking under the bar. They found empty shell casings but still no corpses. But with Helâs ability, Johan figured theyâd meet soon enough.
âThey definitely put up a fight.â Johan frowned as he crept over a broken barricade. They discovered more signs of fighting, but still no soldiers. Youâd think theyâd have run into a survivor by now. A security camera followed them as they walked along the halls. Was Surtur watching them right now?
âLetâs put those security cameras to good use.â Dino pulled out his phone, hitting the redial button.
âMeili Pizza. Even if itâs at the bottom of the sea, weâll get it to you in fifteen minutes, guaranteed.â
âOops, I forgot I called you guys,â Dino said sheepishly at Johanâs raised eyebrow. âI wanted to order a quick pizza, but there wasnât time.â
âHello?â a more familiar voice said.
âDoctor, the coast seems clear. Weâre standing in front of the security room right nowâŚâ
âIâm on it,â Halvorsen said before clicking off.
âWith any luck, we can reunite with Robogirl too. Iâd rather not wander around blindly. Besides, theyâll be slow with Reineâs broken leg.â Dino frowned when he found the security room unoccupied. âStill empty.â
âDo you hear that?â Johan straightened, sure heâd heard scraping noises. Then all hell broke loose as a nearby office door smashed open, revealing the nightmares beyond.
âWhat the hell?â Johan said, using his sword to deflect a sudden slash toward his throat. Claws scraped against metal as the beast creature pressed with unbelievable force against him. A tingle of revulsion passed through him as acrid drool dripped onto his cheek from the creatureâs gaping maw, filled with rows of dagger-like teeth. It looked like some twisted combination of a human and a hyena.
âSeems like they left us a parting gift to keep us busy,â Dino said, ducking under a cat beastâs claws. With an audible crunch, he punched the monster in the nose. While a minor annoyance, it bought Dino the precious seconds needed to gain some distance from his attacker. The Ymir thugâs smile became a grim line as more beast creatures moved to corner him against the wall.
The hyena monster pressing against Johan howled as he ripped his sword free, slashing the beast across its chest, and staggered it with a boot to the knee.
âMust be Reine again.â How had she gotten this upgrade? It didnât matter. Johan leaped into the security room so heâd be free to transform. Dino joined him, and they prepared for battle.
âHenshin!â
Not a moment too soonâthe monsters rushed them in a wave of death. But the mindless beasts hadnât prepared themselves for the foe theyâd thought theyâd cornered. A head flew from its perch as Laevateinnâs golden sword acted on instinct to protect its master. Johan joined the battle, his sword like lightning. Another died as his blade removed a decent section of its torso. Combined with his floating sword, Laevateinn rained death upon foes foolish enough to box themselves into an inescapable room.
Dino wasnât easy prey either, leaping over his enemies and taking their heads with a rapid spear thrust. When his feet touched the ground, seven of their foes had already met their destruction. Despite their victories, their monstrous foes only replaced their losses with three more. These proved wiser, however, attacking as a team to overwhelm their prey.
âWe donât have time for this.â While they still didnât know Surturâs end goal, Johan sensed these new zombie types played some part of it. He fought back to back with Dino as their enemy harried them from all sides. Each blow from his twin swords caused death to anyone unfortunate enough to feel their bite. Dino wasnât a slouch, either, so nimble that Johan often missed his spear tip as it whipped through the air.
âDamn.â Johan took a slash from behind. He punished it with an elbow to the jaw, but it left an opening for a shark monsterâs fangs to sink into his shoulder. Its head exploded into dust as his flying sword retaliated. While the wound stung something fierce, heâd live. Dino hadnât escaped uninjured either, panting as he stole the heads of three monsters with a single swing of his spear. They were both spent as they finished the remaining creatures.
âCrap.â Johan scowled, undoing his transformation. The fight had reduced his energy reserves to almost nothing, leaving him with three percent power remaining. Without that part from Rebecca, his suit would last only two minutes.
âUnfortunate. Stand back and let me handle the bad guys until then,â Dino said as Johan explained the problem. âHopefully, your friend can make it. Ah, found him.â
Dino gestured with his head toward a far-left screen. It showed Surtur bounding up a staircase with Reine in tow. From a blurry sign, Johan saw their enemy had reached the fifteenth floor.
âStairs, wonderful,â Johan said, scowling.
âI think theyâre heading toward the research labs.â
âOkay, but why?â Johanâs heart raced as he considered the possibilities. âFor some super doomsday bomb?â
This only earned a raised eyebrow from Dino. âWhat? Do you think Ymir was developing nuclear weapons?â
âLikely story. Ymir would have done anything to succeed in their twisted goals of world domination,â Johan said, refusing to concede the point.
âYou! What are you doing here?â They turned to see a soldier pointing a rifle at them. From his shabby state, Johan guessed he must have only just survived an encounter with Surtur and his monsters.
âGeneral, I found two suspicious men in the security room. Bringing them in for questioning,â the soldier said into a comm-bead.
âTwo suspicious men who defeated all these monsters by themselves,â Johan said, not hiding his irritation.
The man only stared wide-eyed at them, his weapon shaking in a tight grip. No doubt heâd suffered a great deal because of Reineâs monsters. âSir, they claim to have d-defeatedâŚâ
âItâs all right, soldier. Iâm with them,â Doctor Halvorsen said, walking at a brisk pace down the hall.
âGeneral, Doctor Halvorsen is here,â the soldier said, surprised. âHe claims heâs an associate of the two.â
After giving a brief nod, the soldier handed over his earpiece to Halvorsen. The scientist winced as the voice behind it almost deafened him.
âIâll explain everything, General Holloway. But there isnât time. These two young men have devices that can match Surturâs power. Theyâre using a prototype I designed.â Halvorsen paused as the general said something. âIâll take full responsibility for their actions. There isnât time to argue, General.â
âJohan, Dino, pursue Surtur,â Halvorsen said after another brief exchange with the general. âIâll watch things here and guide you. While Iâm uncertain what research Surtur might be after, Iâll check the Ymir database for any likely candidates.â
âAnd now we have to climb endless stairs,â Johan said, scowling. Without his armor, itâd take him forever to climb fifteen floors.
âYou have the benefit of friends upstairs. General Holloway has agreed to switch on a lift to beat Surtur at the pass. In the meantime, his remaining soldiers will slow him down. They donât need to fight him head-on to be a major obstacle.â
âThatâs a relief, at least. Tell us when Rebecca gets here,â Johan said, already taking off toward the lift Halvorsen indicated. It appeared to be a private one for VIPs only. Dino followed in hot pursuit, while the soldier remained behind to guard Halvorsen.
âSheâll be here soon. She told me itâd take about twenty minutes,â Halvorsen said, giving them a nod.
âWhat about ID-01?â Johan asked, wondering if sheâd even be suitable for battle after suffering such emotional turmoil. Despite being a machine, Yareliâs death had impacted her profoundly.
This gave Halvorsen pause. âIâm not sure. Iâm a little surprised we havenât run into her yet. But Iâm sure sheâll make herself known.â
âYou best get going. Time is of the essence,â the soldier said, pointing toward the elevator with his weapon.
âYeah, yeah,â Dino said, clicking the button. With almost silent movement, the elevator doors opened. Johan joined him inside, and they vanished up the shaft as it zipped upward. Bland music played while they waited, only heightening Johanâs anxiety as they approached their enemy.
âOkay, weâre on the floor,â Dino said into his phone. âKeep us posted.â
âYou ready?â Dino asked, putting his phone away.
âAs Iâll ever be.â
Dino put a hand on Johanâs shoulder and beamed. âAnd thereâs no one Iâd rather go into battle with.â
âStop being so friendly. You killed a mate of mine, remember?â But Johanâs words didnât have the vitriol theyâd once carried. Dino only gave a stiff nod in response. When the elevator arrived with a ding, they peered into the corridor.
Only empty hallways awaited them, not filled with more beast creatures as Johan had feared. From Halvorsenâs reckoning, they should be on the floor above Surtur. Before they could run toward the stairwell, an explosion rocked the building. Johan stumbled but quickly regained his footing.
âWhat the hell was that?â Johan asked, bracing for another explosion. It came several moments later from another part of the building.
âMight be the delaying tactic the general mentioned. Theyâre getting a little enthusiastic. Letâs go,â Dino said, guiding them toward the source of the explosion.
Smoke filled the upper reaches of the ceiling as something caught fire. A nearby door burst open as Reine collapsed on the floor, coughing.
âDamn suit doesnât have a filtration system. Those bastards took the floor stairs ahead of us!â The former idol froze as she caught Dino and Johan glaring at her. âDamn! Why are you bastards here?â
âYou again,â Surtur said, his boots thumping against the floor as he turned to address the unwanted newcomers.
âYeah, canât get rid of us, can you?â Dino said, beaming. He pulled out his beltâs key and readied it for action.
âYou wonât escape this time,â Johan said, face tightening in hatred. âThis is for you, Ilma!â
âHenshin!â
âNew powers?â Reine said, shocked as she saw Johanâs new armor. She opened fire on him, but his blade deflected the shots.
âDoctor Halvorsen again. How troublesome,â Surtur said, blocking a blow from Johan meant for Hel. âBut you only delay the inevitable.â
âNever! Call me Kamen Rider Laevateinn. I was created to kill you, you bastard!â Johan snarled, coming on the offensive with his twin blades.
Sparks flew as Surtur defended himself from both sides, just managing to block each blow. But Johan pressed him hard. The monster grunted in effort as he couldnât deflect the second incoming slash quick enough. Since Surtur had never fought Johan, he hadnât the data to counteract his fighting style.
âSo powerful,â Reine said, marveling as Surtur struggled to keep up. âBut never mind.â She snapped her fingers, and six zombie beasts exploded from the floor below, making Gungnir lose his footing as the floor collapsed beneath him. Claws met their mark, slashing across his back, while the others jumped to restrain him. Reine used his distraction to shoot bolts into him, making Dino howl in pain and drop his spear.
âDino!â But Johan couldnât rush to his aid, grunting as a boot struck his stomach. It almost knocked the wind out of him.
But Surtur paid for it, thrown back as Laevateinnâs floating sword rained blows on him from above, slashing with such ferocity that he struggled to fend it off. Regaining his breath, Johan pulled out his key and inserted it into his sword. A glint of exposed circuitry on Surturâs chest caught his attention. Now heâd finish this and deliver a fatal blow.
âItâs over, Surtur! Twin Strike!â Brilliant light gathered around his sword, so bright it blinded. It hummed with raw power, which Johan felt through his gauntleted hand. He stabbed forward, his aim true.
He gasped as his armor suddenly disappeared, all power leaving his weapon. Without the enhanced strength, Johan hadnât gotten the thrust he needed to deliver the finishing blow. His strike went wild, his face colliding with Surturâs breastplate. Stars filled his vision.
âJohan!â Dino took the head of a monster beast but retreated as Reine bombarded him with energy bolts.
Johanâs head throbbed as he tried to regain his bearings. Pure terror filled him as he saw the titanic behemoth towering over him.
âTypical humans. You fought this battle with a half-constructed weapon and wishful thinking. You humans seem to assume courage alone will win you the day. But I wonât deny its power. You fought well. Farewell.â
âOh, crap!â Despite his best efforts, there wasnât time to scramble awayâSurtur was already swinging his mighty blade down toward Johanâs exposed neck.
Glass shattered as a figure drove through the outside window, kicking Surturâs sword aside before it connected. Instead, the blade buried itself deep into a plaster wall, melting it on impact.
âYou?â Surtur said, unperturbed by the sudden interruption.
âID-01?â Johan said, flabbergasted. Where had she come from? Had she been scaling the building from the outside?
âYouâve come to fight again, my counterpart,â Surtur said. âInteresting. Now the only remaining threat to me has appeared.â
âHer again,â Reine growled.
âYou killed my sister, Surtur. And youâre trying to destroy the world. This ends here,â ID-01 said, pulling out her key. But then a change caught Johanâs eyeâshe was wearing a different belt around her waist. What was she doing with that?
âYareli?â Johan blinked, watching as ID-01 mimicked his late friendâs movements. She even wore Yareliâs confident grace right before transforming.
âHenshin!â
A fearsome visage stared back at them as ID-01 took on Yareliâs armor. It mirrored his friendâs old armor, but its coloring was snowy white. Golden chains covered her body, but they appeared broken, shattered by somebody breaking out of them. Angel-like wings sprouted from her back, taken from ID-01âs old armor. Red eyes glowed as she stared at Surtur, her intent for his destruction plain.
âCall me Kamen Rider Fenrir Valkyrie. Together with my sister, I will defeat you, Surtur!â

Wolf mishap
Hello there!
Thanks to @evadne01, I am back! At least, temporarily. Thank you for your help in getting some will to create something, and your patience (especially for my random week long disappearances)
Here is the moodboard I made, for square M1 of @merlinbingo, "Changed into an animal".
Here is the link to the fic:
An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
Ok but if thereâs gonna be a scene where Loki goes back to the citadel, that means he can get his sword back right? *fingers crossed*
FEH OCs Part 2 out of ???
Disclaimer: I am going off of my memory, so I will probably miss or misremember several things. This time we're going through the characters introduced in Book 2 (and a little more).
Fjorm: I think she's alright, she apparently has a burning hatred for Sutr, but I never got that vibe from her. Also, it took like 3 years for Nifl to claim her life as she did the rite of ice. Which is weird, but at least it got addressed.
Gunnthra: Fjorm's big sis and she's dead. I think a lot of people forget that part, just like I forgot a lot of her character. Girl deserves to be in some forging bonds, she hasn't been in one since the event dedicated to the Nifl Royal family.
Hrid: Same as Gunnthra, except he's not dead and is ruling Nifl. I feel he could use some more alts or forging bonds events. Also, he tried 1v1 Sutr, but it didn't work out. A for effort though.
Ylgr: I like the kid, she's thrilled to be a hero and go on adventures with her siblings. I also like her relationship with Helbindi, it's the typical tough guy and wide-eyed kid, but it's cute. Also, her weapon is called Sylgr and I find that amusing.
Laegjarn: Caught my attention with her relationship with Laevatain. Gotta enjoy sisterly bonds and all that stuff. Although, I don't understand why she and Fjorm are friends. They barely knew each other and were on opposite sides, then she died and was forced to fight for Muspell. Not a lot of opportunities for meaningful conversation unless it's off-screen.
Laevatain: Imagine being named after the sword you wield, Sutr is a shitty parent, but that's not news. She's reliant on Laegjarn for strategy and planning, but her sister is dead and she is in charge of Muspell. I worry for her.
Helbindi: I feel bad for the dude, he lost his village and sister, and then dies protecting Veronica and Ylgr. One of his castle lines mentions that he doesn't feel he belongs here. Anyways, Duo hero with either Ylgr or Mustafa for him.
Sutr: Generic evil fire guy, and that's fine. He has a kickass design and that one speech where he talks about burning people alive. Kinda disappointed he's not in Book 3 considering there was a xenologue where we got to see Sutr in Hel.
Loki: How are you not a Legendary/Mythic Hero? YOUR SISTER IS ONE. Not crazy about her design though. Also, I'm expecting her to kill the Summoner (Norse mythology is the basis for that claim). Nifl: I don't like her design, it doesn't feel wintery enough to me. Although, I would like to know more about her first love and see her pre-muspellruinedmylife.
Muspell: Not crazy about his design either, his Flame Tribe alt is great though. He doesn't feel as intimidating as Sutr, which is a bit sad. I would like to see him and Nifl singing Snow Miser vs Heat Miser.
