so i’m having a (pretty civil, surprisingly) discussion w a c!tommy apologist and i’ve been stumped on one of their arguments. so i told them that no one on the smp has given c!dream a chance to heal and therefore he can’t, unlike the other characters (c!tommy etc), and then they told me people don’t owe anyone a chance and don’t have any obligation to help them out, especially people c!dream has hurt himself
and i do agree mostly, but something about this argument just rubs me the wrong way yk?
i have faced down this argument. this is me ranting to a friend about it because it's just god-awful reasoning;
but yeah just say even if people didn't owe you anything it still hurts you and it can and Will make you worse. you're considering it from dream's perspective, not from others' perspective. you're talking about his character arc and his mistreatment. make that clear.
if he's never been given a chance to heal, he's never been given a chance to heal. full stop. that's it.
don't bring other characters into this. we're not arguing about whether their action or inaction makes them morally worse. we're not talking about their reasons behind doing it.
i don't care why c!dream hurt c!tommy, it traumatized him either way and should be considered when discussing the character. this train of thought is so logically flawed, it blows my mind.
