Labyrinth Runners

“Managing to evade her Oracle wards… it’s possible to make it so that only she can hear it.”
“Tough luck. She’s only second to Osran in power over Oracle. But I guess even she has trauma.”
the Huntlow dynamic in Labyrinth Runners is just so...mwah! it's so important to me.
there's just something about Hunter--the genius teen prodigy, highly trained child soldier, right hand man of the Emperor--looking at a schoolgirl who has always been seen as 'weak' (and even the people who care about her don't believe in her fully--see Amity during this episode) and saying 'she would never be scared of me. she is the captain, she is strong and capable and she wouldn't be scared of me.' Hunter voices absolute faith that Half-A-Witch Willow wouldn't back down from the Golden Guard, and I think that's beautiful.
And meanwhile, you have Willow looking at the boy who, just a few weeks ago, betrayed her trust and sold her and her friends out to the Emperor's Coven, and she chooses to say 'I trust him.' No-one has ever just trusted Hunter before--he's always been The Golden Guard, the Emperor's right-hand-man, and as such, even when people have treated him kindly, it's always been with a big grain of salt, and he's always had to throw their kindness back in their face because serving the Emperor came first, and during Labyrinth Runners, Hunter himself is coming to terms with the fact that he's been living a lie and serving a monster. And now the first person ever just to treat him like a friend, only to have her kindness repaid with betrayal is looking at him and saying 'he may be the Golden Guard, but he is my friend, and I trust him.' This is particularly notable because Willow has been hurt badly by people she considered friends in the past, and she still chooses to take a chance on Hunter.
it's just so sweet, I love it.
