“Ethan.” She calls out his name before she gingerly takes his arm to stop him. “You can’t go in there with your tie look like like that.” Naima has grown to really like the mechanic. He’s a fresh of breath air in her usual gloomy life. So, she’s doing what she can to keep the friendship including getting him out there to meet new people. Perhaps she can help him see that not all people are doomed. When he turns around, she truly appraises his get up. How could it have bee missed by her how handsome he was? “You look perfect.” She smiled, her hands moving to adjust his tie. It was a small little event that she wanted to bring a friend to. Lola was busy and he was on her list of victims. When he had accepted, she was more than excited. As she tied the knot, she couldn’t help the smile on her face. Withdrawing her hands, Naima took a step back and sighed. “there you go. Now…go get ‘em.”
Only by the grace of Naima was he even leaving his apartment. He couldn't even remember what he did for new years besides visit his dad. Although last year, they wouldn’t let him stay till midnight, he just spent them alone. He also wasn’t someone’s plus one in long while either. He wasn’t really invited out to places, but that was also by design. He wasn’t even sure if he would be a good date. Date. His mind was racing, was it one?
All the woes and worries melted when he saw Naima. He barley could even form a proper sentence when he saw her. He tried to cough over his stuttering. Stupid of him, he would have to keep it up all night, she looked that good. She was literally glowing, her outfit made her radiate even more. She reminded him of the books of Mythology he read in school. The impersonation of Aphrodite herself. When they reached city hall, his stomach clenched tight. Not even realizing he was basically just charging in, trying to take his fear head on.
Hearing Naima call his name, brought him back to the present. He hadn’t even noticed his tie, he almost felt bashful. When she said he looked perfect, a wide smile came to his face. No one said things like that to him. “No, it’s really you” He said his voice low as she fixed his tie. He wanted to say more, but his mouth wouldn’t let him. He cracked another smile and took a couple steps back. “Come on” He said, as he outstretched his arm for her to hold. “I have to count how many people are going to gasp when you walk in”
