Day 6 of trying to celebrate Kwanzaa
Kuumba/Creativity
The main thing I've learned about this day is a had to be there celebration of food and art and music and dance. What was I doing during the day of kuumba? At work getting stared menacingly at by racists because a 30 minute wait isn't gonna go away if you hold in your slurs until you go outside. This doesn't mean I can't continue to improve my baking skills and win hearts throughout the year with recipes from around the world. A focus on Black recipes has always been there but it can always be stronger.
Creativity also exists in clothes and the way I present, and I really need to do better. So many of my outfits are either extremely low effort or an unseasoned version of the already unseasoned outfits the white people around me wear. So many fashion cultures came from Black people, and all of them are absolutely fire, so I'll look like them. I'm going to loc my hair because locs have to be one of the most versatile hairstyles and the history of them to Black people is so rich and so important to Black hair in general, up there in importance with cornrows.
Absolutely 0 reason to not have more Black artists on my playlist. I may not have made the music but their creativity fuels mine. Will be fixing that
