DRAGONS!!! (Variable Qualities)
There are many types of dragons, and things called dragons, in the world. In Europe, there are several common types. The Serpentine Dragons (Worms, Wyrms, Wurms, Orms in Europe, as well as Sea Serpents, but also the Horned Water Serpents of the Americas), Semi-Dragons (Lindworms, Wyverns), Classical Dragons (the Hexapodal European classic as well as Dragonets), Sky Dragons (Amphitperes and many Asiatic Dragons), and Neodragons (Cockatrices, Tarasque, Peluda, Hydra, and other weirdos). Most Neodragons are simply other dragons with extra qualities bullt on top of the other base qualities.
There are two ways to play as a dragon, one is to do so right out, the other is to control/train one as a Dragon’s Ward, and have the Dragon work with you as a partner. That is covered as a seperate quality.
All Dragons have Adversary (Lots) from Storm Gods of all sorts, Angels, other Dragons, Thunderbirds, Phoenixes, Monster Centipedes, Knights in Shining Armor, Dragon Hunters, and so on. They also have the Following Weaknesses: Alcohol (have to roll Con singled to resist intoxication/passing out more rapidly than people), Centipede Venom forces similar singled con tests, Multipliers for attacking the heart have a +1 to the damage modifier, Lightning deals double damage, Oranges repel them like Garlic for vampires, and the herb Rue can be used to negate some of their supernatural abilities (including cure their venom). Dragons have a similar Arrogance to that of the Faeries. Here, though, it is Draconic Arrogance, starting at Mild but many are worse.
Dragons may take Dual Form in order to take the form of a human being (losing at least their natural/physical abilities as well as odd movement options, if not also including their stat bonuses), or use Seaming to appear as a mundane animal of similar proportions and size.
These represent a dragon of roughly the same overall mass as a human being (45-150kg/100-300lbs). Larger dragons can exist, as can smaller ones, but this is purchased separately.
Wyrm 16-Point quality
Wyrms (Worms, Orms, and Sea Serpents) are long serpentine creatures. They are either up-sized snakes with bells and whistles (like combs, waddles, and horns), caecilian-like beings or giant Olms. This represents an animal roughly twice the length of a man.
Wyrms gain +3 Strength, +5 Dexterity, +3 Constitution, +2 Perception, and +1 Willpower. They have Innate Magic, Amphibious, Natural Armor 8, Increased Life Points +30, Regeneration (Con per half-hour), and can bite for 3 x Strength slash/stab damage. They can also see into the infrared spectrum.
On the negative side, they have a -1 to Intelligence, and have Attractiveness -4 from their horrible appearance. They also have no arms, legs and a serpentine body. They can grapple but only with a +1 bonus rather than a +2. Their speed is decreased by 20%. Slamming people with its body deals normal punch damage. Without hands, tool use outside of specially crafted devices is nearly impossible (they have to use the mouth to manipulate small objects).
Many worms are poisonous, but this is purchased separately.
Horned Water Serpent 20-Point Quality
These are the dragons of North America, they live both in the water and under the earth, able to travel beneath with frightening speed. They are predators and often bring misfortune.
These dragons have a +5 to Strength, +3 to Dexterity, +3 Constitution, +2 Perception, and +1 Willpower. Living underground and underwater, they have Acute Senses (Touch, Hearing) and they can sense vibrations through water and earth through their touch, allowing them to navigate with 0 visibility. In air, this sense is a little muffled, operating at -2. They also have Innate Magic, Amphibious, Natural Armor 8, Increased Life Points +30, and a Bite for 3 x Strength slash/stab damage. When swimming or tunneling through the earth, they move at 3x their normal running speed (decrease included).
On the negative side, they have Attractiveness -6 from their horrible appearance. Their arms and legs are tiny and vestigial at best, giving them a very serpentine body similar to that of a Siren (a type of amphibian). They can grapple but only with a +1 bonus rather than a +2. Their speed is decreased by 20%. Slamming people with its body deals normal punch damage. With their tiny hands, they can manipulate objects, but at a -4 penalty, and only close up. Weapons are wielded at -3 by these limbs.
They also have an added weak point from their horns, which are effectively their ears – hitting them can stun the dragon. This provides no extra points.
Lindworm 16-Point Quality
This variety of dragon has two legs limbs used for walking and manipulating the environment. They tend to live in more mountainous land terrains. Their legs are relatively short and stubby, so they are rather awkward creatures overall.
Lindworms gain +3 Strength, +3 Dexterity, +2 Constitution, +1 Perception, and +1 Willpower. They also have Innate Magic, Natural Armor 10, Regeneration (Con per hour), and can bite for 3 x Strength slash/stab damage, claw for 2 x Strength slash/stab damage, or slam foes with their tail for 3 x Strength Bash damage. This tail can be used to manipulate objects, but badly (-3 for weapon attacks, -4 for other uses). They also have Mesmerize (Meet my Gaze).
Lindworms are a bit more violent than other dragons having Anti-Social Impulses (Mild Violence), -1 Intelligence, Attractiveness -4, and they have no arms. They also have Mild Covetous (either for Food, Young Maidens, or Wealth).
Wyvern 14-Point Quality.
Wyverns are winged, two-legged dragons that are very common in modern media depictions of the beings. They are also some of the worst-tempered of the lot. This is a man-sized beast, but they can get larger.
They have a +4 Strength, +3 Dexterity, +3 Constitution, +1 Perception, and +1 Willpower. They are innately magical, have Regeneration (Con per Hour), Flight (Basic) as well as Armor Value of 6. They can bite (3 x Strength Slash/Stab), have two claws on their feet (2 x Strength+1 Slash/Stab), and a sharp blade on the end of their tail (2 x Strength).
On the negative side, they have -2 Intelligence, Anti-Social Impulses (Violence and Cruelty), but also Honorable (minimal). They have no hands (-4), are sleaker/more graceful animal in appearance than outright ugly (-2 Attractiveness), have a Fairy Compulsion to protect their territory, and have Mild Covetousness for either Food or wealth.
The stinger on their tail is often poisonous, but this is purchased separately. As is fire breath.
Classical Dragon 15-Point Quality
The hexapod horror, this beast is the stuff nightmares and dreams are made of.
Classical Dragons have +5 Strength, +3 Dexterity, +3 Constitution, +2 Perception, and +2 Willpower. They have Innate Magic, an Armor Value of 8, Increased Life Points (+30), Flight (Basic), Regeneration (Con per Hour) and can attack with a bite attack (3 x Strength Slash/Stab), and has claws on 4 of its 6 limbs (2 x Strength Slash/Stab).
On the negative side, they have -1 Intelligence, Attractiveness -6, Mild Covetousness for Wealth and Women, Honorable (minimal), as well as Mild Cruelty and a Mild Anti-Social Impulse to Violence.
Flaming breath, venom, and other abilities are purchased separately.
Dragonets are similar, but have +3 Strength, +4 Dexterity, and +4 Constitution.
Naga 14-Point Quality
Females are known as Nagini, these serpentine shapeshifters occupy a unique niche. They are a neutral rather than being part of the forces of ‘darkness’ or ‘light. They care more about the balance and preserving things than improving things. They are the guardians of rivers, lakes, oceans and springs--as they spend most of their time in and around water. Aside from these wells and rivers, they also reside in two fabulous cities. One is the underwater palace of Bhagavati, the other is the underground city of Nagaloka. Naga can be found on both sides of the Asura/Deva divide, though most Asura-aligned Naga are akin to "Rebellious Teenagers" these days. But in the past, at least one Naga King aligned himself with the Asuras--and earned the entire race the eternal enmity of the Great Eagle, Garuda. Most Nagas are human-sized (IE: 25ft long with torsos as thick as a man's), but the most powerful of them are truly monstrous in proportion--some gaining multiple heads as they are nearly-immortal and never cease growing. Most of the Naga Kings are aligned with the Devas: Ananta-Shesha supports the god Vishnu with his massive body; and Vasuki, who helped the Devas recover a powerful magic elixir (Ambrosia) they had churned with the Asuras thousands of years ago (he acted as a rope to turn the churning implement as well). Neither of these kings rule a city, but hold the title regardless. The current Naga kings are Mucalinda (or Muchalinda) and Karkotaka.
Naga can be found throughout India, but related beings (IE: beings that use the same basic quality) include the Greek, Roman and Arabic Lamia; the European Melusine; and the West-Russian Yuxa.
They have three basic forms: Humanoid Form; a Giant Serpent (usually a Cobra) form and several forms in between (each taking an action to acquire or to fully transform). Their human form has few of the benefits of their serpent forms.
Naga, in snake and monster forms, have +2 Strength and Constitution as well as +3 Dexterity. Both forms are amphibious and can bite foes for 3 x Strength Slash/Stab damage. They also have an Armor Value of 1 and Innate Magic. On the negative side, their inhuman forms are rather ugly (-2 Attractiveness). Not as bad as other dragons, but that is due to their sleekness for aquatic travel.
In snake form, they have no limbs beyond their tail, which they can lash out with at people for normal Punch damage, and only have a +1 to Grapple attempts. This tail is prehensile, able to manipulate objects. It can use tools at -4, or -3 if it’s attacking with a weapon.
In Semi-Snake form, they have 2 clawed hands that deal 2 x Strength Slash/Stab damage.
In all forms, including human, they can bite, and envenom their target. The strength of this paralytic venom is 3. It may be increased for 5 points per level until level 5, when the cost doubles. The venom only works once it gets in via a bite attack dealing damage to the target’s life points. Once inside, it reduces Dexterity of the Target via a paralytic effect. Subsequent bites increase the ‘dose’ strength. Test the Strength of the poison against the Con of the target. If successful, each, SL reduces the target’s Dexterity by 1. This is a long-lasting paralysis, the victim recovering 1 Dexterity every 5 days under medical care. Using “I think I’m okay” restores half the lost Dexterity.
When the Buddha began his meditation under the Bodhi tree, a great storm brewed. Mucalinda came from depths of the earth and used his broad hood to protect the Buddha from the elements. For this he and his kin were blessed among the Naga, bearing a mark (or two) on the back of their neck. Those descendants have a great deal of status amongst the Naga, but must hold themselves to a certain level of behavior in order to gain the true boon--that to be reborn as a human monk in the next life. This is a 2-point quality, as it grants the Children of Mucalinda 5-points worth of status, but saddles them with Honorable (rigid).
Some Naga have the ability to Summon Serpents to do their bidding. This works as the ability to Summon Wolves, and costs 3 points per level.
Amphiptere 19-Point Quality
These are serpents that fly through the skies with the simple undulation of their bodies.
Amphiptere have +2 Strength, +5 Dexterity, +4 Constitution, and +2 Perception. They are Innately magical, have Armor Value 8, Increased Life Points +30, Advanced Flight, Regenerate (Con per Hour), a powerful bite (3 x Strength Slash/Stab damage) and a stinger at the end of their tail (2 x Strength Slash/Stab damage). Their tail is also prehensile, allowing for minimal interaction (-3 to hold weapons, -4 for other tools).
On the negative side, they have Attractiveness -2 from their inhuman appearance. They also have no arms, legs and a serpentine body. They can grapple but only with a +1 bonus rather than a +2. Their speed is decreased by 20% on the ground. Slamming people with its body deals normal punch damage. Without hands, tool use outside of specially crafted devices is nearly impossible (they have to use the mouth to manipulate small objects).
Asiatic Dragon 16-Point Quality
There are many sub-divisions and types of Asiatic Dragon, usually if they are associated with oceans, rivers, or weather phenomenon. This quality covers all of them.
Eastern Dragons receive +5 Strength, +3 Dexterity, and +2 to Constitution and Willpower. They have Advanced Flight, Armor Value 6, Innate Magic, Acute Senses (Hearing), and are Amphibious. They also have natural weapons in their bite (3 x Strength Slash/Stab) and clawed limbs (2 x Strength Slash/Stab).
On the negative side, they are very chimeric in their design, having Attractiveness -6. They also have Honorable (minimal) in addition to Anti-Social Impulses (Mild Violence). While they do have a long snake-y body, their limbs are fully formed and functional.
Most eastern dragons are part of the Celestial Bureaucracy, and beholden to it and the 4 Dragon Kings. This grants them 2 level of Supernatural Contact, but also a Major Obligation to the Court, which cancels itself out cost wise. But, again, not all dragons have this.
Feathered Serpent 17-Point Quality
The most resplendent of dragons in the Americas, these can be good or ill depending on where and what is encountered.
Feathered Serpents receive +5 Strength, +5 Dexterity, +4 Constitution, and +2 Willpower. They have Advanced Flight, Armor Value 8, Increased Life Points +30, Regeneration (Con per Hour), and Innate Magic. They can bite for 3 x Strength Slash/Stab damage. The tail is mildly prehensile, allowing them to interact with the world without their mouth as a primary manipulation tool. However, they are at a -3 to hold weapons with them, and a -4 when using other tools.
On the negative side, they have Attractiveness -4 from their horrible appearance.
