He tries not to think of how he truly ended up with the Legends more often than he'd like.

Behrad knew that before the Legends, he'd been depressed. He didn't like pursing business, even though his sister was the Dragon Girl and people assumed he'd follow the family business. His parents had been so proud of him forging his own path through school. Letting them down terrified him and gave him made anxiety. Eventually that lead to him spending more nights out on the town than in the library studying.

Somewhere, in the haze of a metal show at a local bar and the blueberry mocktail he'd been sipping, she came into his life. Found him when he stepped out to get some air and made conversation. They talked for hours. The next time he went to the same place, she was there again and chats were exchanged.

Kuasa came off as the calm in a stormy sea (Behrad now laughed at the irony of it). She listened when he waxed his fears. She related to being stuck in the shadow of a sibling, although she never really elaborated. Hell, she even partook in his first, absolutely shitty batch of weed brownies (something he still wonders if she actually did).

Eventually, the family heirloom came into conversation after a month. She really wanted to see it, having claimed it to be her field of study. He'd gotten it just as the Legends showed up and Kuasa revealed her true intentions. That she had been interested in the totem, not him. She never had been as far as he knew.

And now the timeline had changed. Kuasa had grown up happy and had a great relationship with her sister. She had no memories of the deception she had carried out. Behrad couldn't hold a grudge against her, because this Kuasa had never done those things. She'd gotten the life they'd both wished they'd had while standing outside that dive bar.

He looked over at the Polaroid he'd found in the pocket of his pants that had been discarded on the floor. The two of them, blurry and beaming after brownies.
