The 1883 eruption of Indonesia's Krakatoa volcano was so gargantuan that it's almost impossible to comprehend. The loudest sound in recorded history, it ruptured the eardrums of people more than 40 miles from the epicenter, created a sound wave that circled the globe seven times, and could be heard all the way in New York City — more than 10,000 miles away.

And even those around the world who didn't hear the blast still reported seeing the sun turn purple, the moon turn blue, and the sky turn red. In fact, the sky grew so red as far away as Connecticut that one local fire department was dispatched to put out what they were sure was a blaze burning somewhere right in town.

The shock wave ruptured the eardrums of sailors 40 miles away.

The explosion was heard more than 3,000 miles away, and recorded all over the world.

It made tsunamis nearly 100 feet high.

Now picture this happening in modern times, with modern communications. Not only would there be uncountable videos and whatnot, but the timing is what really gets me. Imagine you’re going about your day, scrolling social media, and posts start pouring in about an apocalyptic volcano on the other side of the continent. The news are full of it. You spend ages glued to the screen; this isn’t remotely close to you, but it’s a big deal, and you know people who live closer to it.

Three hours later, something explodes outside. Propane tank? Car fire? Some jackass with illegal firecrackers?

I couldn’t decide between offering him food or crystals, so I did both and gave him ✨ROCK CANDY✨

I also wanna name him ✨🌋KRAKATOA🌋✨

Something kind of sad is that I had a background drawing prepped for him, but I only realized after I drew it that I was on cooldown
