“Rehearsal break!” Sophia called out, clapping her hands as everyone groaned in relief.

Manon stretched her arms above her head dramatically. “Finally. I swear my legs are about to file an official complaint.”

You laughed, grabbing your hoodie from the back of a chair. “You wanna come with me to get slushies? The machine down the street should still be working.”

Manon’s face lit up instantly. “Absolutely. If I don’t get a blue one, I might actually perish.”

You shook your head, smiling. “The stakes are high, I see.”

The two of you slipped out the practice room door while the others collapsed onto the floor like they’d been shot.

The slushie machine hummed like a loyal old friend. Manon already had a cup in hand, filling it with an alarming amount of blue syrup. “You’re going to turn your entire soul blue at this rate,” you said.

“Worth it,” she replied proudly. “Besides, blue is elite.”

You filled yours with red. “Red is clearly superior.”

“Wrong. Objectively.”

“You just don’t want to admit you have bad taste.”

Manon jabbed her straw at you. “Take that back.”

“Make me.” She narrowed her eyes. Then she smiled—bright and mischievous—which made your stomach flip in a way you pretended not to notice.

“Fine,” she said. “We’ll let the universe decide whose is better.”

“How?”

She took a sip of hers, stuck out her tongue—now fully blue—and said, “Whichever color looks cooler.”

You burst out laughing and stuck out your tongue too, showing your very red one. “Ha! Clearly, I win,” you said.

Manon shook her head. “We’ll see what the others think.”

The moment you and Manon walked into the room, conversation stopped. Daniela blinked. “What… happened to your tongues?”

Lara squinted dramatically. “Are they… purple?”

You and Manon exchanged confused looks—then froze. Your slushie colors. Blue + red.

Sophia walked over like a detective solving a case. “Did you two share slushies or something?”

Yoonchae looked personally offended. “Why didn’t you bring us any?”

You shook your head frantically. “We didn’t share them! I had red, she had blue!”

Daniela leaned close, inspecting. “No, no. That’s definitely purple.”

Manon sputtered. “How?! That defies science!”

Sophia raised an eyebrow. “Well… you two were gone a while.”

You and Manon froze. Then the room exploded into chaos.

“No way—did you kiss?!” Lara yelled.

“We DID NOT—” Manon choked.

“That would explain the color…” Megan said thoughtfully.

Yoonchae snapped her fingers. “Mystery solved. They kissed. Case closed.”

“We didn’t!” you and Manon shouted at the same time—way too quickly to sound convincing. The others all exchanged the look. The knowing one. You buried your face in your hands.

Manon groaned into her slushie cup. “Next time,” she muttered, “I’m getting clear water.”

You nudged her gently. “Hey. At least they think we’re interesting.”

Manon peeked at you, cheeks still pink. “…Well, we kinda are.”

And despite the chaos, the teasing, the overly dramatic reenactments Lara was already staging in the background…

You didn’t really mind.

Not if it meant moments like this with her.
